Grounded 2 is the introduction of
Buggies. These rideable insect companions not only allow for faster travel across the vast backyard map but also provide a loyal companion for single-player runs. Unlocking your first Buggy is a core part of the early-game progression.This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking your first Buggy, from starting the "Egg Hunt" quest to hatching your new companion.
How to Unlock and Ride a Buggy in Grounded 2
To get your first Buggy, you must progress into the main story and start a specific quest.
Start the "Egg Hunt" Quest: You must reach a point in the main story where you are given the "Egg Hunt" quest.Enter the Anthill: During this quest, your first objective is to enter the anthill.Find the Ant Egg and Optical Disk: Inside the anthill, you need to find both a Soldier Ant Egg and an Optical Disk.Purchase the Hatchery Data Pack: Take the Optical Disk to a Ranger Station and purchase the Hatchery data pack for 500 Raw Science.Build a Hatchery: Return to your base and construct the Hatchery using the following materials:- Weed Stem (6)
- Acorn Top (1)
- Acorn Shell (5)
- Mite Fuzz (5)
Hatch the Egg: Place the Soldier Ant Egg inside the Hatchery and wait for 12 in-game hours for it to hatch.Once the egg hatches, you will have your very own Buggy. You can then ride it to travel faster or have it follow you as a guard. It can hold its own against smaller insects like lawn mites.
Housing and Caring for Your Buggy
- Ant Nest: Over time, you will unlock other Buggy types. To house them and increase your Buggy capacity, you'll need to build an Ant Nest. The data pack you purchased for the Hatchery also includes the Ant Nest recipe.

Once your Buggy is hatched, it can be mounted for faster travel, used tohelp you gather resources, and act as a loyal companion. You can also whistle at your Buggy to have it return to you and even pet it to show affection.
