In order to find these crystals you will have to search The Crater, in the northern section of Vanaheim. To access this region you will have to free Freyr from the Asgardians, a mandatory story mission. After that, Helka will look for you and want to take you to Western Barri Woods, and Freyr's boat will take you and then a dragon will attack you. After landing in The Crater, the location will become available and there are several things you will need to do to unlock it.

In the region you will find the orange crystals that drop shards that you can pick up by destroying them. Mimir will often comment on how they should eventually be useful to you.

Then you will have to go to The Sinkholes, and you will have to unlock Wishing Wel, a hidden place that will lead back to the crater. If you throw the crystals into the center of the well, they turn into shimmering crystals, along with other resources.
