The sprawling world of Ghost of Yotei is filled with thrilling combat and a gripping story, but it also rewards players who take a moment to engage with its quieter, more immersive side activities. One such feature is cooking, an optional but highly beneficial system that can give Atsu a crucial edge, especially on higher difficulty settings. Mastering this mechanic is key to survival, providing valuable, day-long buffs that can turn the tide of a difficult encounter.This guide will walk you through the entire cooking process, from setting up camp to finding the ingredients and understanding the benefits of each meal.

Ghost of Yotei: How to Cook

Cooking in Ghost of Yotei is a simple, meditative process. First,Atsu needs to find a suitable location. You can set up a personal campby holding down left on the D-Pad while on horseback or standingnext to your steed. Alternatively, you can seek out an established Ainucamp, which are scattered throughout the world.

Once you've made camp and started a fire, look for the cooking basket next to the flames. Approach it and press the X button to open the ingredients menu. From here, you can choose to cook either a mushroom or a fish.

The cooking itself is an interactive, cinematic experience. To cook the food evenly, you'll need to use your PS5 DualSense controller. Tilt the controller down to have Atsu bring the food closer to the fire for a proper roast. Press the O button to flip the food over, ensuring it cooks on both sides. Once the meal is perfectly done, the game will automatically exit the cookingscreen, and Atsu will gain the appropriate food buff.

For playerswho prefer a more streamlined experience, you can enable the "QuickCamp" option in the Gameplay settings to automate the entire cookingprocess.

The Benefits of a Good Meal: Food Buffs

In Ghost of Yotei, there are only two types of ingredients to cook, andeach provides a unique and powerful buff that lasts for a full in-gameday:

• Fish: Eating a cooked fish grants a significant bonus to Atsu's spirit, which can be used to perform powerful techniques. It also provides a random major perk. These perks can range from powerful offensive boosts to critical hit chance or defensive buffs that reduce incoming damage.
• Mushroom: A cooked mushroom also provides a bonus to Atsu's spirit, but instead of a major perk, it grants a random minor perk. While less powerful, these minor perks can still offer a helpful advantage in combat or exploration.

The bonus to Atsu's spirit is visually represented by a green icon with awhite border that appears above her health bar. The white border acts as a timer, slowly depleting as the day progresses to show you how muchtime is left on your food buff.

It's important to note that youcan't stack buffs. Atsu can only eat when she is hungry, which means you can only consume one food item per in-game day. This makes the choiceof what to eat a strategic one, depending on the challenges youanticipate facing.

Hunting for Ingredients: Where to Find Food

Both fish and mushrooms are overworld items that can be found by exploringthe world, much like other collectibles such as flowers and bamboo.

• Fish: Look for wooden fishing traps placed in rivers, streams, and otherbodies of water. These traps often hold a fish you can collect.
• Mushrooms: Mushrooms thrive in damp, shady environments. Search for them on thesides of overturned logs, in the shade of large trees, or in swampy andriverbank locations.

If you don't want to rely on chance encounters, certain Ainu vendors sell a limited stock of both fish and mushrooms in exchange for copper, not coin. Their stock refreshes over time, so be sure to check back ifyou're in need of ingredients.
