With the new update 5.0 of Genshin Impact, comes Natlan, a new and colorful region filled with new characters and prehistoric creatures. This new region of Natlan has brought along with it some unique abilities amongst its characters to explore the overworld in new ways. Along with dealing more damage, these newly added characters will be helping you get to places that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Genshin Impact also features three prehistoric animals, called Saurians, that provide almost the same ability for exploration among all players. Saurians are large, lizard-like creatures that appear in various locations of Natlan. The creature has a total of three types: the Red Saurian, the Green Saurian, and the Blue Saurian.

Each variety of Saurian has different special abilities: the Red Saurian can climb walls and cliffs, the Green Saurian can swim across rivers and lakes. The Blue Saurian glides through the air.

Saurians will be able to grant exploration of Natlan in ways that have never been tried. For example, the Red Saurian could be used to climb to high places for an extensive view of the landscape. The Green Saurian can be used to cross bodies of water without getting wet. The Blue Saurian may be used to reach areas that otherwise could not be accessed.

How to use the Saurians in Genshin Impact?

Saurian transformations are a special game mechanic in Natlan, the newest and hottest region in Genshin Impact. Players who take on these reptilian creatures are given special abilities to get through difficult-to-traverse terrain.

The Saurian Transformation Process

Approach a Saurian and interact with the orange circle above its head. With a press of the "T" key, the transformation will activate, enabling the use of the Saurian's unique skills.

Phlogiston: The Saurian's Fuel

Saurian abilities are driven by Phlogiston, a molten energy source in abundant supply throughout Natlan. Players can recharge their supply of Phlogiston by interacting with Plogiston-rich minerals scattered about the region. The current Phlogiston level is displayed as a glowing orange bar above the player's health.

The Saurians

Tepetlisaur: While some burrowing lizards feel right at home navigating through underground tunnels, others have no problem scaling steep cliffs. One could even use the Molten Fissures to travel large distances in short periods and find hidden treasures. While one is underground, Tepetlisaurs can also destroy rocks with their Geo-based attacks.
Yumkasaur: The Yumkasaurs are agile and can grapple onto points in the sky, swinging through the air with ease. Their long tongues can also be used to pick up and launch Flamegranates-powerful explosive projectiles that deal Pyro damage. While grappling, Yumkasaurs can execute a double jump; they are perfect for tough terrains.
Koholasaur: The aquatic Saurians are built perfectly to glide across Natlan's vast expanses of oceans, travel at high speeds through water, and discover underwater treasures, as well as breaching through the water surface to go overland. The koholasaurs can leap into the water rings dispersed around the region and travel through the air to easily move across bodies of water.

Saurian transformations have various benefits for the players, including:

Special Abilities of Exploration: Each Saurian has special skills in which a player can use to access different parts of the environment that may be blocked or hard to reach. Further, some areas cannot be accessed without the special abilities of Saurians.
Advantage in Combat: The Saurian attacks are effective against specific foes. Certain puzzles in Natlan can be solved only by using particular Saurian skills.
