Xbox gaming can also be a gateway to romance. Discovering someone equally enthusiastic about serious console action can be terrific. As well as enjoying double-player features, you can chill together, discussing what your next Xbox adventure is going to be. The best place to talk to singles and find a potential gaming partner and soulmate is to join an online matchmaking service. You’ll find it so easy to track down someone compatible. Nowadays, on modern matchmaking platforms there are special search filters which can help to narrow down your search only to those who enjoy video gaming. To inspire you when you get round to arranging a games night, here are our top five modern Xbox games.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

This would be an excellent choice to kick off your Xbox session. Set in a world inspired by Celtic and Norse mythology, the main protagonist is Senua, a Pictish warrior depicted with her face daubed in blue warpaint. Her dead lover having been claimed by Hela, a goddess of the underworld, Senua embarks on a quest to rescue his soul. A skilful blend of puzzle-solving, horror, and good old hack and slash, the bonus is that the 2018 upgrade added a virtual reality option. Having sold over a million copies, this game has been a commercial as well as a critical success.

Celeste

On the surface, this appears to be a straightforward story about a young girl, Madeline, attempting to climb to the summit of Mount Celeste, a 2,000-meter mountain towering above the Canadian landscape on Vancouver Island. But it has consistently been praised by critics for everything from its gameplay to the designs of its various levels, its soundtrack, to the depth of emotion in the unfolding storylines. This has been recognised by the multiple awards it has received, 10/10 ranking from games publications, not to mention its million in sales. One reviewer called it an "essential gaming experience."

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

If you prefer more blood and guts splattering across your screen, you can’t go wrong with this choice. The core storyline concerns a battle for supremacy between the Assassins, a secretive society fighting for peace with the utilization of free will and choice, and the Templars, who are seeking the same end, but via different means. The latter are only interested in exerting control and imposing order. Most of the gameplay involves controlling an Assassin in historic timescales, while the action also switches to the present, as the protagonist hunts down his Templar enemies.

Call of Duty: Warzone

This classic video game needs little introduction. A follow-on from previously hugely successful titles in the franchise, this allows you to join in online combat amongst up to 150 participants. You choose from three modes: Resurgence, Plunder, or Battle Royale. For the latter, you parachute into a game map, there to indulge in all sorts of captivating fights with various adversaries. Some of the maps reveal territories destroyed during nuclear attacks, while others show World War II-themed Pacific Islands, where the backdrop is teeming jungles, caves, and swamps. There is also an incredible arsenal of weapons and equipment to help you on your missions.

Control

This title would make for an excellent grand finale to your Xbox date. Here the action is centered on a shadowy US government agency, known as the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). Amongst your tasks is investigating a lethal enemy, called the Hiss, who are infiltrating reality and distorting and corrupting it. Against this formidable enemy, the FBC can utilize potent weapons of their own. Blending paranormal investigations and objects containing energies sapped from different dimensions, this is a highly entertaining cocktail game, while the soundtrack is always arresting and compliments the play perfectly.
