Sometimes playing video games is expensive, but how cool is it that Xbox are now giving away games for free? Gone are the days where free to play games were simply some really low-quality game barely anyone would have wanted to play anyway. We’re talking about some seriously good games such as Fortnite, which incidentally has just made it to the Olympic Esports Series.

Who doesn’t enjoy hearing or reading the word ‘free’? Whatever it is, whenever you’re not expected to spend any money is always great in our books! And when it comes to games, we’re all for it! But these freebies aren’t exclusively available to console gamers, even online gamblers can enjoy games without spending a dime. Whether you’re just starting out, or perhaps you’re simply in the mood to get a feel of the game's theme and storyline, there's the option to play free slots with free spins. Pretty neat, huh?!

But back to our Xbox favorites – here are ten free to play games currently available that you’re going to want to check out. Browse through the lot or skip to your favorite one right here.

1. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Championing on the coat tails of the massively successful Call of Duty series, this latest COD instalment has received a load of criticism from the online gaming community, but there’s no denying that this is still a brilliant free-to-play experience.

In this case, we see the battle royale scenario that Fortnite or Firestorm gamers might already be familiar with, with the addition of a ton of new features including modes, maps, shooter side games and so on. As anticipated, to have a fighting chance you’re going to load up on the best loadouts and Warzone 2 guns you can get your hands on.

2. Destiny 2

If you’re into shooter games, then Destiny 2 has been designed to make you smile. Loaded up with some impressive content in terms of quality, this game includes PvP modes, exclusive campaigns, strikes and they’ve even thrown a couple of raids into the mix.

Developed by Bungie, the same guys behind the Halo 1-Reach game, Destiny offers a high-quality sci-fi gaming experience that quite literally never ends. This is because it’s plugged directly into the network allowing for regular updates and expansions to occur in real time. If you’re all about chasing highs, Destiny 2 is one to check out.

3. Fallout Shelter

If you’re known to have been part of #teamfortnite at some point during your gaming history, then Fallout Shelter might be an interesting option for you right now. Your job here is to keep your vault dwellers alive and happy, or possibly not. It’s up to you to decide the fate of this underground community as the game progresses.

In the style of Fallout 76 and Fallout 4, your job will include managing the citizens, expanding your vault, as well as potentially commissioning a search party to head to the surface and bring back valuable loot.

4. Rumbleverse

Whether you’re into or over the whole battle-royale scenario that’s dominated the free to play games world for a while now, you’ll be pleased to know that Rumbleverse is here to make a difference – and by that we mean wrestling. Dropping off 40 players into the heart of the city where the only goal is to make it out alive, be prepared to fling yourself off skyscrapers or kick your enemies straight off to their demise in the ocean.

Packed with top class fighting game mechanics, this is a weapon-free game, which means that you’re pretty much ready to go as soon as the game loads up. Of course, there’s always a generous amount of loot to be ravaged, but at least you’ve got the extra benefit of being at a par with everyone else even if you’re just getting started.

5. Halo Infinite

This classic sci-fi shooter game is back baby and it’s looking sharper than ever in this free to play multiplayer version. In this case Microsoft is giving us arena-style combat energy combined with some of the most innovative game mode options we’ve seen to date.

Dive right into the action with a full-on Big Team Battle or kick off in Casual Play mode to figure out how not to get slaughtered in the first ten seconds. Offering several weapon options and shooting style opportunities, this game represents a job done well.

6. Apex Legends

Originally released back in 2019, Apex Legends has hands down been one of the most popular free to play shooter games out there. Originally starting out as a battle-royale style game eventually evolved into a fully loaded shooter game that received multiple upgrades including modes and maps over the last couple of years.

Developed by Respawn, a software company that’s known for regularly updating their games with new adjustments and player options. They’re also known for having created one of the best shooter game mechanics out there, especially when it comes to first-person shooting modes.

7. Roblox

Forever a free for play classic, Roblox is known for its creativity as well as the opportunity to socialize in this virtual scenario. Extremely popular amongst the younger generation, Roblox includes shooting and racing games, animations, RPGs, and other education-oriented content.

Even though many of the games are free, there’s also the option to upgrade various options along the way via your Xbox account. If you’re not playing Roblox but your kid is, here’s some extra info you might want to know.

8. Rocket League

If you thought football games were dope, wait till you see what Psyonix have done here. Welcoming you into a huge arena, this time we’ve got a main 3v3 mode that will set two teams up against each other with the intention of scoring as many goals as you can before the time runs out. Plot twist – the players are cars, and the ball is the size of a house.

If you ever want to see this game in full action, then you’re going to want to check out a couple of pro Rocket League videos to really understand the magnitude of potential that comes with this game.

9. Fortnite

No Xbox free to play game guide would ever be complete without the OG that is Fortnite. Transforming into one of the most iconic battle-royale games out there, Fortnite offers its players ample opportunity – if you can get past the questionable graphics that is.

In this case, apart from being able to blast your way to success there’s also the option of mining for materials such as metal and wood, and using these to build structures which might eventually save your life. Will the world live to see another day? Well, I guess we’ll figure that one out at the end of each game round.

10. The Sims 4

Fancy playing God for a while? With the release of The Sims 5 pushed to 2024, EA has recently rolled out The Sims 4 version as a free to play game on Xbox. Starting out with a multitude of prefabricated houses and ample space to build whatever your heart designers, The Sims 4 offers hours of virtual entertainment for all ages. Whether you’re up for creating the perfect family or starting a BBQ fire and removing all the doors is up to you – the options are truly endless here, definitely a game to check out.
