3. Structures Placement: Open the Building Menu (usually found in the bottom right corner of the screen, or is brought up by pressing a hotkey such as "N"). Scroll to the correct tab (in this case, probably "Housing" or "Science") and choose the Research Institute from the list.

4. Marker Placement: A building slot in the extended Housing District will be marked with a black marker when the Research Institute is chosen. This is where the Institute can best be placed.

5. Construction Start: Click the black marker to begin the process of building the Research Institute. The process will involve extra resources, hence the requirement for proper stockpiles.

Demolition and Deactivation:

You can demolish or even deactivate the Research Institute when it is no longer needed later into the game. You do this by selecting the district and, moving your mouse near the building slot, choosing to begin the process. Demolishing the Institute gives you a partial refund of the invested resources, while its deactivation reduces only its ongoing demand of Heat.
