Note that caterpillars are randomly spawned, so you will need to shake a few trees for them to appear.

Once you've spotted a caterpillar, just equip that trusty bug net and slowly approach your target. Interact at the right time, and the catch will be yours. However, these small creatures are more than only a momentary challenge but hold value within the world of Fields of Mistria.

Hemlock, the innkeeper and loveable weirdo, will reward you with a Rice Ball for completing his "Request for a Caterpillar" quest. Other than being such a fantastic little snack, it heals some health and stamina for your many travels. More importantly, filling out town requests like this is what raises, quite substantially, the rank of Fields of Mistria and, in turn, empowers your Renown.

Caterpillars offer more than their usefulness in quests alone. Many other opportunities for growth and prosperity open up to them when you put them in your Shipping Bin to turn them in for Tesserae—one of the core currencies within this game. On the other hand, giving caterpillars as donations to the museum increases the town's Renown and brings you a step closer to completing the Spring Insect Set the coveted insect set to gain more rewards.

Essentially, caterpillars are not only small creatures but rather multifunctional property that can make quite a difference in your Fields of Mistria gaming. Ranging from completing quests to making money and improving your collection, the potential of these insects is considerably greater for the more astute player.
