What to know about holstering a weapon in Fallout New Vegas?

While we are exploring Mojave in Fallout: New Vegas, we will complete many quests and meet many interesting characters. For some, it can be negative if we enter their buildings or try to talk to them while holding a gun. While there are no in-game instructions on How to Holster Weapon in Fallout New Vegas or Melee Weapon, it is possible to do so if necessary. There are times when it is necessary to holster the weapon. Otherwise, we will not be able to talk to the NPCs, otherwise they will attack us without warning. An example of such an action takes place after completing the GI Blues mission ordered by the King. When we approach the NCR faction troops, they will attack us if we don't holster our weapons, leading to some unfortunate consequences.

If we hide the weapon, we will be able to talk to Kieran, allowing us to advance further in the mission without receiving karma and shame from the NCR. Fortunately, it is possible to holster our weapon by holding down the button we are using with that weapon, like the weapon from the Gun Runners Arsenal DLC. It is important to hold down the Reload button to save our weapons in Fallout: New Vegas. When the game recognizes this command, our character will perform a holster animation. We will see that our melee weapon will be stored on our left hip and our weapon will be stored on our right hip.

These are the default reset buttons, depending on the platform we are using:

  • PC: R key
  • PlayStation: square button
  • Xbox: X button
  • To unload our weapon, we can press the Reload button or the Shoot/Attack button again.

This is the default Shoot/Attack button, depending on the platform we are using:

  • PC: left mouse button
  • Playstation: R1 button
  • Xbox: RT button

Furthermore, instead of using the Reload button, we can also holster our weapon in Fallout: New Vegas by sitting down. This action will force us to holster our weapon in the same way as if we held down the Reload button.

Now that you know how to holster a weapon in Fallout New Vegas, you can apply it and thus avoid hostility.
