Here are the best places to farm Steel in Eternal Strands if you want to use the resource in your upgrades.
Locations To Get Candescite in Eternal Strands
Steel is a 2-star Forged Resource and isn't good for middle or late game upgrading, but it's an amazing starter to reforge your active equipment and fast level it.
Glintwood - Hollow
Glintwood Hollow has two places which have always Steel and Bronze ores. As the chart above shows, the red line, both of these ores occur on narrow ledges. On every map you will always find three rocks on a path.
Snaefell Gulch
While the risk for cultivating Steel is higher in this realm compared to Glintwood Hollow, the west side of The Akron's Expanse is worth visiting-especially if you're going there anyway. Various ores of both steel and bronze are at the base of this massive cliff. Only a charged melee strike would work against the Steel or Bronze ore with the default equipment. It just so happens that the regular melee attack and bow attack do absolutely nothing.
Early in the game, Steel is an excellent Forged Material to use in upgrading weapons and armor. It provides a damage increase of 12 over the default Sword and Shield. Being an inert metal, steel does not affect temperature resistance one way or the other.
While chests and other sources may still drop Steel in the other higher-level worlds of Eternal Strands, Serenite and Candescite ores have become more common, making Steel ores scarce. Compared with Steel, Candescite is a 3-star Forged Material that grants better stat enhancements.
But that doesn't mean the Steel becomes waste in the later stages, since you can use the same steel ore to upgrade your camp's workshops; each of them grants you two camp supplies in return for one ore. Even if you don't have any use for more Steel ores, it is worth keeping them in camps for further upgrades since the number of Camp Supplies required for upgrading will grow drastically from Level 3 onwards.
