Star Path events in Disney Dreamlight Valley often include tasks that require players to complete specific objectives, some of which can be surprisingly tricky. One such challenge asks players to mine for square Gems around the village. While this may sound straightforward, the task is more complicated than it seems—not every Gem that appears square-shaped in your inventory actually counts toward completion.

Which Gems Count as Square in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

For the Star Path task, only six specific Gems (and their shiny variants) are classified as square. While other Gems like Onyx may appear square in shape, they do not count toward this objective.

• Onyx does NOT count, despite being square-shaped.
• Shiny variants of the listed Gems do count since they are the same type, just higher quality.
• If you don’t have the DLCs, focus on mining in the base game biomes (Frosted Heights, Forgotten Lands, Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Vitalys Mines, and Plaza).

Best Strategies to Complete the "Mine for Square Gems" Task

1. Bring a Mining Companion

• Assign a villager with the Mining role (such as Kristoff or Scrooge) to accompany you.
• While extra Gems they dig up won’t count toward the Star Path task, they help you gather more resources for selling, crafting, or future quests.

2. Focus on High-Yield Mining Spots

• Vitalys Mines (Ruby & Sapphire) and Frosted Heights (Amethyst) are excellent locations for frequent Gem drops.
• If you have the A Rift in Time DLC, The Promenade and The Grove (Spinel) are also great spots.

3. Use Energy Buffs for Efficiency

• Eat meals that maximize your energy bar (like a 5-star recipe) to avoid frequent breaks.
• Mining consumes energy, so keeping it high ensures you can gather Gems faster.

4. Check Mining Nodes Frequently

• Gems spawn randomly in mining nodes, so revisit areas after some time.
• If a biome isn’t yielding enough square Gems, switch to another location.

• This Star Path duty rewards 25 Tokens, the highest amount for any single task in the Garden of Whimsy event.
• These Tokens can be exchanged for exclusive event-themed furniture, outfits, and other rewards.
