If you're wondering how to activate cairn stones, the first thing you need to do is complete the Den of Evil quest and the Sisters' Burial Grounds quest, this will allow you to access the Search for Cain quest, as Akara will ask you to find who is most likely the most iconic NPC in the Diablo franchise, Deckard Cain.

Tristram is nowhere near, so you will have to opt for Cairn Stones, which you can find in Stony Field and considering that the game maps are randomly generated, you will have to go through the area until you find it.

To activate the Cairn Stones and access the portal to Tristram to rescue Deckard Cain, you will have to place the stones in the correct order after finding the Inifuss Tree:

• Right stone
• Lower left stone
• Upper left stone
• Top stone
• Bottom stone

Finding the Inifuss Tree will allow you to obtain the Inifuss Scroll, which you will have to take to Akara to be translated before activating the Cairn Stones.

To get to the Tree you will need to find the Dark Passage in the Stony Fields > advance through the passage to the Dark Wood area > find the exact location of the Inifuss Tree > when you find it, you will need to take down the unique brute called Treehead Woodfist > afterwards you will need to interact with the tree > then use a scroll from the City Portal to go to Camp Rogue and find Akara.
