In order to unlock the Strand Subclass in Destiny 2, players will have to complete the Lightfall Campaign and speak with the character Nimbus in the Tower Annex. After doing so, players will be able to access a special meditation podium which will then unlock the Strand Subclass for them.

  • Complete Lightfall Campaign: The Lightfall Campaign is a set of missions that takes place in the Dreaming City. It is designed to provide story context for the Strand Subclass and serves as the precursor for unlocking it. In order to complete the Lightfall Campaign, players will need to complete the missions “The Gateway”, “The Dreaming City” and “The Shattered Throne”.
  • Speak with Nimbus: After completing the Lightfall Campaign, players will need to speak with the character Nimbus in the Tower Annex. This will initiate a cutscene which will then unlock the Strand Subclass for the player.
  • Meditate at Podium: Once players have spoken with Nimbus, they will be able to access the special meditation podium at the Tower Annex. This podium will then unlock the Strand Subclass for the player.

Unlocking Strand Fragments


In order to unlock the full capabilities of the Strand Subclass, players will need to collect Strand Fragments. These fragments can be obtained by completing missions, bounties and activities, as well as through random drops from enemies.

  • Time-gated Release: The Strand Subclass was released in a staggered, time-gated manner. The first phase of the subclass was released on March 7th, 2021, with the second phase of the subclass being released on March 10th, 2021.
