Fans of the original Counter-Strike will instantly say that CS2 is way brighter than CS:GO. It gives the game a pretty artificial feeling to new joiners. You can't revert these changes that CS2 has made client-side, but you can skin it to look like CS:GO and that'll get you right back home.

How to make CS2 look like CS:GO

By changing the vibrance and gamma, CS:GO will take on more of the look of CS:2. If you want to go back to that old style of Counter-Strike, which was a bit more subdued and brighter than CS:GO graphics, here's how:

  • You can access the console via the tilde (~) key. If that doesn't bring up the console window, try Settings > Game > Developer Console.
  • Hit the enter key once you have typed in "r_fullscreen_gamma 3".
  • Third step, either go to your monitor's preferences or right-click your desktop in case your graphic card is NVIDIA and access your card's control panel.
  • Come to the desktop color settings and move the slider for digital vibrancy to 70.
  • The desired result would come through adjustments of vibrance and gamma levels. A good rule of thumb concerning gamma is to stay within the range of 2.5 and 3.5, while for vibrance, it is essential to stay within 70 and 90.

That is why installing VibranceGUI will save you from much hassle: it will automatically switch the digital vibrance to the one you prefer every time you launch CS:GO or any other game. I find this really nice because, apart from playing CS, I don't like to have my vibrance turned up for anything else.

Graphics options to mimic CS:GO style

Above steps would get you pretty close to how CS:GO looked in CS2. However, if you miss the good old days of CS:GO, when everything had rough edges, you could turn off FidelityFX Super Resolution and use Advanced Video settings to set everything to low or medium.

Make look like CS:S2 by changing monitor settings

Not last but not least, change settings on your monitor. Press the button on the back of the monitor to enter the menu. The settings of Black Equalizer, Shadow Booster, Contrast, and Sharpness are the ones that affect the way your game looks. I do not touch such settings but rather change settings using a control panel and adjust graphics for getting the best out of it.

This may feel a bit weird if one gets used to working with other monitor and graphics settings in CS:GO. Basically, this setting was made because, in CS:GO, when the opponent player models were harder to discern on the maps, turning up the vibrance of the monitor would help me see better, thus I have done it ever since. You may want to change these on your display, too.
