Unlocking the Mine
You can't just stumble upon Timid Kyle's Neglected Opening; you must first progress through the main story. Specifically, you need to complete the "Shadow of the Mountain" quest. This mission marks a key point in the game's narrative, and upon its completion, you will be notified that the Auger Mine is now accessible. Once you have finished the quest, a new fast travel point called Belton's Boore will appear on your map. From this location, make your way to the nearby lake and look for the cave entrance to begin your exploration.Exploring the Mine
The mine is a linear, but challenging, area with a few obstaclesyou'll need to overcome. The first thing you'll notice is the brokenwooden planks blocking your path; these can be destroyed with a punch, a gunshot, or by throwing a nearby barrel.
As you proceed, beprepared to use your jetpack fuel or glide ability to cross severalgaps. There's also a narrow passage that requires you to crouch to getthrough. Once you're past that, you'll need to double jump or glideacross an opening to reach the next area.
The mine is home toseveral enemies, primarily threshers. While you don't have to engageevery enemy you see, it's often wise to clear a path to avoid gettingoverwhelmed. Your main goal is to navigate to the far end of the mine.Head toward the southeast, climb a hill, and use a grapple point tocarefully cross to the next section. You'll find a save point here, andit's a good idea to stock up on ammo before the boss fight.
The Boss Fight: Voraxis
After sliding down a path, you'll enter the boss arena and come face-to-face with Voraxis, a powerful thresher. This boss is known for its devastating dashattacks, which can be difficult to dodge. A key to surviving this fightis to use the various obstacles in the arena to block Voraxis's charges. He cannot pass through certain objects, which gives you an opportunityto get some hits in.
Voraxis is a Quake Thresher, a type of enemy that only has a Flesh health bar. This means that Incendiary weapons are the most effective way to deal damage. While Voraxis willoccasionally submerge into the ground to become invincible, you cananticipate his attacks and use his brief moments of vulnerability toland critical hits. He will also summon smaller enemies to help him. You can use these minions to get a second wind or to deal some extra damage to the boss if your weapons are not powerful enough.
Rewards
After defeating Voraxis, you can collect the loot. The items you receive mayvary with each run, but some of the potential drops include thefollowing:
- High Capacity Remnant Bunker - A shield that triggers a nova when broken and provides a +50% shield capacity bonus on a critical hit.
- Sniper Rifles - The type and rarity of these can change with each run.
- Entry Shield - A basic armor shield.
- Scraping Weldworm - A unique item that is likely a rare drop from this boss.
- Darkbeast - A legendary SMG.
- Buoy - A legendary grenade.
- Potato Thrower IV - A legendary weapon.
Timid Kyle’s Neglected Opening is a great place to farm for these legendaryitems, as you can return to the entrance after defeating Voraxis and use the Encore Machine to fight him again.
