How do you turn off crossplay in Black Ops 6?
This complete guide will walk you through the process of setting up crossplay in Black Ops 6, pending your choice of gaming platform.
PlayStation 4 & 5:
- Launch and Navigate: Launch Black Ops 6 and proceed to the main menu.
- Access Settings: With your controller, press the "Start" button; you will see the icon that says "Settings" with a gear symbol. Click it to access the settings of the game.
- Find the Crossplay Options: Once in the "Account & Network" tab, look under this header in the "Online" section for two options: "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communication."
- Turn Off Crossplay: Using the pinpoint accuracy of the "X" button on your controller, highlight and toggle both "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communication" from "On" to "Off." This will restrict your matchmaking pool solely to other PlayStation players.
- Possible Downsides: You will only be matched against other players on PlayStation if crossplay is disabled. Note that this may increase queue times due to the fact that crossplay disabled reduces the number of potential players the game can match you against.
Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One:
Unlike PlayStation, Black Ops 6 on Xbox doesn't feature a specific in-game toggle for enabling/disabling crossplay. So never worry, here is how to change crossplay:
- Open Xbox Settings: From the Xbox Home screen, go to "Settings" displayed with an icon of a gear.
- Go to the Privacy Section: In the "General" section, click "Online Safety & Family." In this section, you configure everything related to how your child interacts with others online on your Xbox.
- Privacy Setting Setup: Next, click "Privacy & Online Safety" then "Xbox Privacy." Now you will be able to edit your privacy settings in more detail.
- Customize Communications & Multiplayer: Once you see "View Details & Customize", click it. It will open more advanced privacy settings options. Under those, find "Communication & Multiplayer" and click on it.
- Block Cross-Network Play: You will find a section "You can join cross-network play" with a very important dropdown menu. Flip the switch for this option to "Block" to turn off crossplay for Black Ops 6.
- Console-Wide Setting: Keep in mind that this is a setting system-wide on your Xbox console. If, at any time, you want to turn crossplay on for other games, you will need to go back into these settings and enable it once again. As of now, Activision or Treyarch has not officially announced one way or the other whether or not there will be a specific toggle for crossplay for Xbox users in Black Ops 6.
PC:
The thing is, Black Ops 6 works a little different on PC: where you can disable crossplay entirely in console variants, the PC version doesn't have this option currently available-and that means you'll find yourself automatically teamed up against others on PlayStation and Xbox when you go online for multiplayer.
While crossplay on PC can't be avoided entirely, there's a pretty neat workaround if one finds themselves wanting to get that controller experience in. Just plug your controller into your PC. This lets you use the controller aim assist-a literal competitive advantage, if you are accustomed to using a gamepad.
