How to Use the Laser Designator (Tripod) Gadget in Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 has brought back the iconic four-class system—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—each with distinct roles and playstyles. To truly excel on the battlefield, players must understand the unique loadouts and gadgets that define these soldiers. While the game’s customizability allows a Recon player to technically equip an Assault Rifle or Shotgun, the best path to success lies in committing to the long-range precision and intelligence-gathering power of the Sniper Training Path and its specialized gadgets, such as the Laser Designator.The Recon’s primary role is not just to eliminate high-value targets with a sniper rifle, but to act as the squad's eyes and ears. This is why the M2010 ESR Sniper Rifle is the recommended primary weapon, especially when paired with the Sniper Training Path. This specialization grants significant bonuses like quicker rechambering and the ability to prevent headshot victims from being revived (Confirmed Kill), turning a skilled marksman into a tactical force multiplier.

The Laser Designator is a critical piece of equipment thatelevates the Recon from a lone wolf to a vital member of a coordinatedteam. The gadget functions as a pair of advanced binoculars, which canbe equipped by pressing the left d-pad or the "3" key.

Once equipped, a Recon player has two operational choices. The first is touse the powerful zoom feature, which is enhanced by default thermal vision. This feature makes it easy to spot enemies and enemy vehicles,especially from a concealed position, and the zoom level can be adjusted up to three levels by pressing L3 or the "F" key.

The key utility, however, is the Paint option, activated by holding R2/RT or Left-Mouse Click (LMB). While this can be used to simply mark a point of interest for the squad, its true purpose is to designate enemy vehicles, including tanks, jets, and helicopters.

This is where teamwork becomes essential. A painted vehicle is marked for a longer period, allowing friendly Engineers—who are equipped with the Air-Defense Launcher (SLM-93A Spire) or the Long-Range Launcher (MAS 148 Glaive)—to easily lock onto the target and launch guided ordnance, effectively creating a deadly synergy across the classes.

Versatility in Deployment

Beyond manual use, the Laser Designator offers a unique tactical advantage by allowing players to deploy it as a tripod. Once placed on the ground, the gadget can operate autonomously, continuously tracking targets. This frees up the Recon player to focuson eliminating infantry threats or moving to a new vantage point,knowing the area is still being scouted. Players can also re-access thetripod at any time to take manual control.

The Recon class,therefore, is defined by its ability to gather and share intelligence.By mastering the Laser Designator, and coupling it with otherintelligence tools like the Proximity Detector or Recon Drone, the marksman becomes less about just getting kills and more aboutproviding the vital battlefield awareness that leads the entire team tovictory.
