Atomfall is a game filled with danger, intrigue, and carefully guarded secrets—and few places embody this more than Skethermoor, one of the game’s most hostile and heavily fortified regions. While players can access it early, doing so unprepared can lead to a brutal experience.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about finding Skethermoor, navigating its dangers, and gaining Protocol’s approval to explore its restricted areas safely.
Why Skethermoor Is Different From Other Regions
Skethermoor is one of Atomfall’s five major explorable zones, but it stands out for its high-security military presence. Unlike more neutral areas like Wyndham Village, Skethermoor is controlled by Protocol, a faction that shoots trespassers on sight unless you’ve gained their trust.
Key features of Skethermoor include:
- Heavily armed patrols (robots and Protocol soldiers).
- A high-security prison (locked behind faction approval).
- Valuable loot and secrets (for those bold enough to explore).
If you rush in unprepared, you’ll face instant aggression from Protocol forces. However, with the right approach, you can gain access to its restricted areas.
How to Find Skethermoor: Two Entrance Routes
There are two main ways to enter Skethermoor:
1. Through Slatten Dale (Early-Game Access, But Dangerous)
This is the fastest way in, but also the riskiest if you’re not equipped for combat.
- Step 1: Head to Slate Mine Caves at coordinates 30.0E, 73.5N (south-east Slatten Dale).
- Step 2: Look for a hidden door behind a mine cart—this leads into the caves.
- Step 3: Follow the path until you meet Reg Stansfield (a trader), then take a left.
- Step 4: Squeeze through a narrow passage, then exit through another door into Skethermoor.
⚠️ Warning:
- Robots and soldiers will attack immediately unless you’ve allied with Protocol.
- Bring weapons and healing items to survive the ambush.
2. Through Wyndham Village (Safer, But Requires Exploration)
If you prefer a less hostile approach, this route lets you avoid instant combat.
- Step 1: From Slatten Dale, head north to the Wyndham Village entrance (near the sewer shortcut to Casterfell Woods).
- Step 2: Follow the path downhill past St. Katherine’s Church.
- Step 3: At the fork in the road (Village Green), turn right, passing the pub and Village Hall.
- Step 4: Continue to the Protocol checkpoint, walk past the guards, and enter Skethermoor.
✅ Advantage:
- Fewer instant hostilities (unless you provoke the guards).
- Lets you build rapport with Protocol before entering.
How to Gain Protocol’s Approval (Avoiding Instant Death in Skethermoor)
If you want to explore Skethermoor without being shot on sight, you’ll need Captain Sims’ approval. He’s located in Wyndham Village’s Village Hall.
Two Ways to Earn Protocol’s Trust
1. Report the Murder at St. Katherine’s Church
- Enter the church and discover the crime scene.
- Return to Captain Sims and inform him of your findings.
2. Investigate Iris (The Bakery Quest)
- Complete the "Bakery" lead related to Iris.
- Choose the option to report your findings to Sims (instead of hiding the truth).
⚠️ Important:
- Do NOT attack Protocol soldiers—this will ruin your reputation.
- Stay passive and cooperative to maintain access.
Final Tips for Surviving Skethermoor
- Early-game? Avoid Skethermoor until you’re well-armed or allied with Protocol.
- Need loot? If you’re stealthy, you can sneak in through Slatten Dale’s mines—but be ready to fight or flee.
- Want full access? Complete Sims’ missions to explore Skethermoor’s restricted areas safely.
Conclusion: Is Skethermoor Worth the Risk?
Yes—if you’re prepared. This zone holds valuable secrets and loot, but it’s not for the reckless. Whether you charge in guns blazing or take the diplomatic route, knowing these strategies will help you conquer one of Atomfall’s toughest regions.
Will you take the dangerous shortcut or play the long game? The choice is yours.
