The Giant Bison, a powerful and majestic creature, is a fantastic addition to Ark Survival Ascended. These bovines can serve as swift mounts, ideal for traversing plains at high speeds. Furthermore, tamed female Giant Bisons are capable of producing milk, a valuable resource that can be fed to baby Giant Bisons and even baby Wyverns. Survivors can also consume this milk for beneficial effects.Let's delve into the process of taming a Giant Bison and maximizing its utility in Ark Survival Ascended.
How To Tame the Giant Bison in Ark Survival Ascended
Taming a Giant Bison requires careful planning and execution, as they are formidable opponents in the wild.
Preparation and Initial Engagement:- Avoid Head-on Attacks: It is crucial to avoid attacking the creature head-on during the initial phase. Giant Bisons are incredibly strong, and a direct headbutt from them will inflict significant damage and, more importantly, stun you, leaving you vulnerable.
- Maintain Distance: Try to maintain a healthy distance from the Giant Bison during the early stages of the taming process to avoid their powerful close-range attacks.
- Tranq and Knockout: You will require a Tranquilizer Gun (or a Crossbow with Tranquilizer Arrows/Darts). Continuously fire at the gigantic bovine until its torpor rises sufficiently, causing it to fall unconscious. Due to their bulk and high health, they can be quite difficult to knock out, so be prepared with plenty of tranquilizing ammunition.
- Food for Taming: Like any other knockout tame, you must have the appropriate food in your inventory. Giant Bisons are herbivores and will consume vegetables, berries, and Kibble. Their preferred food for optimal taming effectiveness is Superior Kibble.
Tips for Efficient Taming and Proper Utilization of the Giant Bison
Here are some additional tips for the taming process and making the most of your tamed Giant Bison:
Taming Efficiency:
- Superior Kibble: As noted, feeding Superior Kibble to an unconscious Giant Bison will significantly speed up the taming process and result in a higher taming effectiveness, yielding more bonus levels for your new companion.
- Trapping (Recommended): Giant Bisons often spawn in groups, and their pack bonus makes them incredibly dangerous. A taming trap (e.g., stone gateways or a pen) is highly recommended to isolate yourtarget and prevent other Bisons from interfering or aggroing other wildcreatures in the vicinity. This helps maintain taming effectiveness andensures your safety.
- Isolate Your Target: If you encounter a pack, it is essential to move your target animal away from its pack before attempting to knock it out. Otherwise, its packmates willaggressively defend it and potentially kill your target or you.
Milk Production and Uses:
- Breeding for Milk: To produce milk, you require both a male and a female Giant Bison. After successfully breeding them, the female will give birth to a baby.
- Baby Proximity for Milk: Female Giant Bisons will only produce milk if they have their own baby Giant Bison nearby. The milk can be obtained from the female's radial menu.
- Cooldown: The milk production process has a cooldown of fifteen minutes between extractions.
- Baby Consumption: Baby Giant Bisons only drink milk during their early imprinting stages.
- Wyvern Milk Substitute: Giant Bison milk serves as an excellent substitute for Wyvern Milk, which is incredibly difficult and dangerous to obtain. This makes Giant Bisons invaluable for raising baby Wyverns.
- Survivor Buff: If your character consumes Giant Bison milk, it provides a powerful buff that doubles the duration of other food buffs, such as those from Focal Chili or Fria Curry. This can be incrediblyuseful for extended crafting sessions, resource gathering, or dangerousexpeditions.
Combat and Abilities:
- Attack Pattern: The attack pattern of a Giant Bison is influenced by its head stance:
- If the head is up, the Bison performs regular headbutts.
- If the head is down during the attack, smaller opponents will be flung into the air, making them vulnerable.
- Pack Bonus: Wild packs of Giant Bison can consist of up to six members and benefit from a pack bonus. This bonus, similar to Direwolves, increases their damage output anddamage resistance when in a group. Tamed Bisons also benefit from this, making a group of them a formidable fighting force.
By utilizing these strategies, you can successfully tame and leverage theversatile abilities of the Giant Bison, enhancing your survival andprogression on Ark Survival Ascended's Ragnarok map.
