How Soul Fragments Work in Abyssus

The Soul Wheel in Abyssus is a vital meta-progression system that allows you to make permanent upgrades to your character and gameplay. Located in the lobby, it's where you spend Soul Fragments to unlock and enhance a variety of stats, abilities, and mechanics that persist between expeditions. Mastering this system is essential for surviving the game's increasingly difficult challenges.

How Soul Fragments Work

Soul Fragments are the primary currency used to power the Soul Wheel.3 You can obtain them in several ways during your runs:

• Defeating Elites: These powerful enemies drop a significant amount of fragments.
• Defeating Bosses: Bosses provide a large number of fragments upon defeat.
• Opening Chests: You can find fragments in chests scattered throughout the expedition areas.

In addition to the Soul Wheel, Soul Fragments also serve as a reroll currency at Blessing Altars and the Ancient Forge, giving them a dual purpose that adds to their value.

Soul Wheel Progression

The Soul Wheel is organized into seven tiers of upgrades. To unlock a new tier, you must first spend a certain number of SoulFragments in the previous tiers. As you progress, the cost of upgradesincreases, but the power and impact of the perks also scale up.

Level 1 Upgrades

• Enhanced Weapons: +3% Weapon damage (5 upgrades, 1 Soul Fragment each)
• Upgraded Inventions: +4% Ability damage (5 upgrades, 1 Soul Fragment each)
• Bountiful Bottles: +1 Syringe charge (1 upgrade, 1 Soul Fragment)
• Picky Worship: Reroll categories at Blessing Altars (3 upgrades, 1 Soul Fragment each)
• Bartering: Reroll Merchant options for Gold (1 upgrade, 1 Soul Fragment)

Level 2 Upgrades

• Abyssal Stamina: +40 Max Health (5 upgrades, 2 Soul Fragments each)
• Ability Abundance: +1 Ability charge (1 upgrade, 2 Soul Fragments)
• Temple’s Rest: A Healing Shrine will appear in the Abandoned Temple (1 upgrade, 2 Soul Fragments)
• Starting Funds: Begin a new run with 1 Key and 50 Gold (2 upgrades, 2 Soul Fragments each)
• Ancient Forge: A Weapon or Ability Forge will appear during expeditions (1 upgrade, 2 Soul Fragments)

Level 3 Upgrades

• Keen Vision: +2% Weakspot damage (5 upgrades, 3 Soul Fragments each)
• Magazine Madness: +3% Reload speed (5 upgrades, 3 Soul Fragments each)
• Garden’s Rest: A Healing Shrine will appear in the Gardens (1 upgrade, 3 Soul Fragments)
• Ascended Blessings: Upgrade Altars will appear during expeditions (1 upgrade, 3 Soul Fragments)
• Gambler: Wishing Wells and Sacrifice Altars will appear during expeditions (1 upgrade, 3 Soul Fragments)

Level 4 Upgrades

• Ability Abundance II: +1 Ability charge (1 upgrade, 5 Soul Fragments)
• Bountiful Bottles II: +1 Syringe charge (1 upgrade, 5 Soul Fragments)
• Abundance: Extra Merchant options (3 upgrades, 5 Soul Fragments each)

Level 5 Upgrades

• Rapid Fire: +3% Weapon fire rate (5 upgrades, 8 Soul Fragments each)
• Second Wind: Revive with 20% Health once per expedition (5 upgrades, 8 Soul Fragments each)
• Sanctuary’s Rest: A Healing Shrine will appear in the Sanctuary (1 upgrade, 8 Soul Fragments)
• Beginner’s Charm: The first room of a run grants a random Charm (1 upgrade, 8 Soul Fragments)
• Timely Reward: Receive extra loot for completing areas quickly (1 upgrade, 8 Soul Fragments)

Level 6 Upgrades

• Execution: Melee hits will execute enemies below 20% health (1 upgrade, 10 Soul Fragments)
• Finer Charms: A higher chance for rare Charms to appear (1 upgrade, 10 Soul Fragments)
• Picky Worship II: Spend Soul Fragments to reroll Blessing categories (1 upgrade, 10 Soul Fragments)

Level 7 Upgrade

• Charm Power: Equip a second Charm (1 upgrade, 20 Soul Fragments)

Strategy and Tips

• Prioritize Early Upgrades: In the beginning, focus on core upgrades like Enhanced Weapons and Abyssal Stamina. These damage and health boosts will make your early runs more stable and increase your ability to collect more Soul Fragments.
• Unlock Key Mechanics: The upgrades that introduce new mechanics, such as the Ancient Forge, Wishing Wells, and Sacrifice Altars, are highly valuable as they give you more opportunities to build a powerful character during a single expedition.
• Invest in Healing: Unlocking the Healing Shrines in different areas is crucial for extending your runs, especially as you attempt to reach deeper levels of the game.
