In the tense and unpredictable world of
Abiotic Factor, players face a myriad of threats, but few are as persistent and unnerving as the
Leyak. This hovering mutant, an element of pure "flesh," presents a unique challenge due to its unusual movement mechanics and unrelenting pursuit. While dealing with it can be a source of frustration, eliminating this spectral nuisance is entirely feasible with the right approach and tools. This article will detail everything you need to know about encountering and effectively eliminating a Leyak in
Abiotic Factor.
Abiotic Factor: How To Kill Leyak
Understanding the Leyak in Abiotic Factor
You will begin to encounter Leyaks once you reach the
XR Containment area within Cascade Laboratories. These unsettling creatures are characterized by their hovering, grotesque appearance and the fact that they almost always fix their gaze directly upon you.The Leyak's most distinctive and unsettling mechanics revolve around its movement:
- Line of Sight Movement: A Leyak will only move when it is out of your direct line of sight. This means if you are looking directly at it, it will remain stationary.
- Distance-Based Movement: It will also move if you are beyond a certain, unspecified distance, regardless of line of sight.
- Partial Obstructions: Crucially, partial obstructions such as windows or fences do count as "not being in the line of sight," allowing the Leyak to continue its approach even if you can partially see it.
- Wall Immunity & Obstruction: Leyaks cannot pass through solid walls. However, they can pass through open doors and even through your deployables if those deployables don't physically block the pathway. They cannot "kick" doors open; if a door is closed or if your deployable prevents a door from opening fully, a Leyak cannot pass through that obstruction.
- Auditory Cues: When a Leyak is near, it emits distinct sounds, often resembling sighs or moans, providing an auditory warning of its presence.
- Persistent Threat: Once a Leyak targets you, its pursuit is relentless. It will even "plague your dreams" while you sleep, implying its persistent nature even when you are not actively engaging it. This means it can wake you up or appear near your base if you haven't dealt with it.
How To Take Down a Leyak
While conventional combat methods are largely ineffective orimpractical against a Leyak due to its phasing nature, there arespecialized tools and techniques to manage and eliminate it.
1. Repelling with Direct Line of Sight (Temporary Solution)
The most immediate way to deter a Leyak, particularly in early encounters, is to exploit its core movement mechanic:
- Stare it Down: If you look directly at a Leyak with absolutely nothing obstructingyour line of sight (no doors, windows, fences, etc., in between you andit), the Leyak will slowly begin to fade.
- Disappearance: After approximately 10 to 30 seconds of continuous direct observation, the Leyak will completely vanish. This is a good method for disengaging or making it despawn if you're not ready to eliminate it permanently.
2. Using X-Ray Tools (Permanent Elimination & Essence Acquisition)
The primary and most effective method for dealing with Leyaks is through the use of specialized X-Ray tools: the X-Ray Tower and the X-Ray Lamp. These tools don't just repel; they can eliminate the Leyak and, crucially, yield Leyak Essence, a vital crafting component.
- X-Ray Tower: This is a stationary defensive structure. When a Leyak comes within its range, the X-Ray Tower will emit a blast that instantly stuns andeliminates the Leyak. This is ideal for base defense or clearing aspecific area.
- To get the crafting recipe for the X-Ray Tower, you need to interact with a specific console in the Control Center of the Cascade Laboratories. This console becomes accessible after you have escaped the Furniture Store section of the game.
- X-Ray Lamp: This is a portable, handheld device that functions similarly to theX-Ray Tower but offers mobility. When aimed at a Leyak, it will stun and cause the Leyak to disappear, providing you with Leyak Essence.
Obtaining Leyak Essence:
To craft the powerful X-Ray Lamp and other items that require Leyak Essence, you must first acquire a piece of Leyak Essence.
- The first Leyak Essence must be obtained by luring a Leyak to an X-Ray Tower. The Tower will eliminate it, and the essence will drop. This initial drop then allows you to craft the portable X-Ray Lamp.
Crafting the X-Ray Lamp
The X-Ray Lamp is an invaluable tool for consistent Leyak management andfarming Leyak Essence. Once you have acquired the crafting idea from the Control Center console, you will need the following ingredients at acrafting bench:
- 1x X-Ray Tower: You'll need tocraft and use an X-Ray Tower first to get that initial Leyak Essence. This means you'll have the recipe for the tower before the lamp.
- 2x Jailbroken CPU: These are advanced crafting components found later in the game.
- 1x Leyak Essence: As mentioned, this comes from a Leyak eliminated by an X-Ray Tower.
By understanding the Leyak's unique movement patterns and leveraging thespecialized X-Ray tools, you can transform this frustrating enemy into a manageable source of valuable resources, making your continued survival in the GATE facility much more feasible.
