Wuchang: Fallen Feathers,
Red Mercury is the central resource for all character progression. It serves as your main currency, experience points, and the fuel for your growth. Understanding how to acquire and use it efficiently is crucial for surviving the game's brutal challenges.
What is Red Mercury?
Red Mercury is the game's primary progression currency. It is used for three main purposes:
- Leveling Up: You spend Red Mercury to increase your character's level at Shrines.
- Unlocking Skills: It is converted into Red Mercury Essence to unlock new skills in the Impetus Repository.
- Purchasing Items: Merchants accept Red Mercury for a variety of essential gear, items, and consumables.
You gain Red Mercury by defeating enemies and bosses, and it is also found throughout the world in the form of consumable items like
Buds (100 Red Mercury),
Shoots (400 Red Mercury), and
Growing Red Mercury (800 Red Mercury).
Tips to Farm Red Mercury Fast
To maximize your Red Mercury gains, consider these strategies:
- Battle Frequently: Regular enemies provide small amounts of Red Mercury, but farming elite enemies and bosses offers a much larger and more efficient return.
- Embrace the Madness Mechanic: The higher your Madness level, the more Red Mercury enemies will drop. However, this is a high-risk, high-reward approach, as the penalty for dying also increases significantly with high Madness.
- Explore Thoroughly: Be meticulous in your exploration. You will find Red Mercury in item form hidden in chests and in the open world. Stockpile these items in your inventory and use the "Batch Use" option at a Shrine to quickly add a large amount to your total.
- Visit Merchants: While vendors like Tao Qing and Wu Gang accept Red Mercury, they also offer items that can make farming easier or provide a better way to progress, so it's a good idea to check their inventory regularly.
How to Use Red Mercury to Level Up
To use your Red Mercury, you must first find a Shrine, which acts as a key checkpoint and hub for all character progression.
- General Leveling: At a Shrine, you can use your collected Red Mercury to increase your character's overall level.
- Skill Tree Progression: The process for unlocking skills is slightly different and requires an extra step. The game's skill tree is called the Impetus Repository. To unlock a node, you first need to convert your Red Mercury into Red Mercury Essence.
The Impetus Repository
The Impetus Repository is where you unlock new skills and abilities. To activate a node:
Select the Node: At a Shrine, navigate to the Impetus Repository and select the skill node you want to unlock.Convert Red Mercury: Choose the "Gain Red Mercury Essence" option. This action will spendyour collected Red Mercury to increase your character's level.Unlock the Skill: After leveling up, you must select the same node again to actuallyunlock the skill using the Red Mercury Essence you just created.Keep in mind that Red Mercury Essence can only be used within the skill tree and cannot be spent on items or anything else.
