From the performances of most of these attackers, you can be sure that they will be on the squad. Arsenal has been in hot form since the beginning of this season. Their precise attacking moves are because of a skillful and fast player like Bukayo Saka. The youngster had a hand in almost every goal for the gunners this season. Unfortunately, he suffered a knock 27 minutes into his club’s 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. He might recover in time.

Harry Kane has been fantastic for the Spurs. He has delivered them from defeat several times because of his last-minute goals. The Tottenham striker has scored 10 goals in this EPL season. Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have been instrumental in Pep Guardiola's squad this season. They produce top-notch assists for Erling Haaland. As for Ivan Toney, he is currently the highest goal scorer for Brentford this season.

Tammy Abraham isn’t exactly in his best form at the moment. But he might get a chance.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have not been prolific in front of goal lately. But who knows? They might get their chance.

Mason Mount has scored 3 goals and 4 assists from open play this season. He has silenced his critics. There is a high chance that we see him at the forefront of the Three Lions' attacking midfield. As for Gallagher, we can't be assured of his place in this squad.

There are other people who can make it into England's team ahead of him. Despite Liverpool's slow start to the season, Jordan Henderson has been at his best in their midfield. The 32-year-old will likely get a deserved spot in the world cup.

Jude Bellingham is a phenomenal youngster that took the football world by storm. Ever since his move from Birmingham City to Borussia Dortmund, he has been going from strength to strength. He has netted 4 goals in the champions league so far. There is a high chance that we will see him in the world cup.

As for Arsenal’s Smith Rowe, he has not seen much action this season. The midfielder has battled groin injuries since the beginning of the 2022/2023 season. Kalvin Philips will likely miss up on world cup action. He has not gotten much playing time under Pep’s tenure.

Defenders

Names

Clubs

Eric Dier

Tottenham

John Stones

Manchester City

Ben Chilwell

Chelsea

Fikayo Tomori

AC Milan

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool

Luke Shaw

Manchester United

Benjamin White

Arsenal

Kyle Walker-Peters

Southampton

Most of the players are playing their trade decently with their current clubs. With Manchester United's lackluster performance, Luke Shaw has been struggling for playtime. The same thing can be said about Trent Arnold. John Stones has not disappointed as well. It looks like Gareth Southgate will have to make dire sacrifices to pick his backline.

Goalkeepers

Names

Clubs

Nick pope

Newcastle United

Jordan Pickford

Everton

Fraser Forster

Tottenham

Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal

Dean Henderson

Nottingham Forest

The most likely first choice for Gareth Southgate will be Jordan Pickford. However, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale will be Pope's likely competitors. They have been awesome with their respective clubs. In the final 26-man squad, there will probably be 4 goalkeepers on the final squad.

Possible absentees

One of the biggest absentees is Reece James. The Chelsea player has been fantastic this season. He showed his versatility by playing most of the positions on the pitch. Unfortunately, he suffered a bad knee injury during Chelsea's champions league match against AC Milan.

Harry Maguire might not make the flight to Qatar. The defender hasn't been at his best this season. He has struggled for playing time at Manchester United. Other likely absentees include:

  • Emile Smith-Rowe (Arsenal)
  • Kyle Walker (Manchester City)
  • Both of these players will likely miss out due to fitness issues.

When will the final 26-man squad be announced?

The exact date for this announcement is not certain. However, Gareth Southgate will definitely take his time before the November 13 deadline, after the premier league grinds to a halt. However, the English manager delivered a 55-man provisional list to FIFA on October 21, 2022. But he decided not to reveal the details within. The prediction is that the final squad will be announced on November 10th, 2022.

Final thoughts

England had a relatively disappointing campaign in the Nations League. According to pre match talk news website, Southgate has to find the killer squad to raise the Spirit of English football fans. With a good team, the Three Lions have a high potential of making it to the knockout round and winning the world cup.
They can fancy their chances of finishing atop a group that contains Iran, Walers, and the USA. While watching the competition, we should watch out for them. Will Gareth Southgate and his army lead England to glory for the first time in over 50 years? Time will tell.
