The first thing you have to do if you're wondering how to get Goldbrand Katana in Skyrim, is to head to the Sacellum of Boethia, east of Windhelm, where you can meet some cultists who kill a woman named Eranya. At this point you will have access to the mission "A matter of pride", as you approach the woman. You will need to access this mission in order to get to the weapon in question.
The first thing to keep in mind is that this is a dangerous mission, so you'll need to have enough potions and good armor before anything else. At the beginning of the mission you will reach Sivdur's Respite, where you will face some angry cultists that you will have to eliminate, but if it's difficult the best thing to do is to raise your fighting level for the next attempt.
After traveling to Winterhold and Whiterun, you will receive the Amulet of Sidvur, half of what you will need to open the final tomb.
After this you will have to go to Shroud Hearth Barrow, where you will encounter both traps and Draugrs here. But you will also encounter a Dragon Priest-like boss, whom you can defeat using a sapphire claw.
