The highly anticipated return of the Skate franchise has brought a massive influx of players eager to get back on their boards and master the streets of
San Vansterdam. With a deep roster of tricks and a renewed focus on community and exploration, there’s no shortage of things to do. Among the hundreds of tricks available, the
Benihana stands out as an advanced one-foot grab that combines style, precision, and perfect timing. This guide will walk you through the exact steps to perform the Benihana, a trick you'll encounter in challenges like the "Benihana Front Flip," and give you the inside scoop on how to get it right.
Skate 4: How to do Benihana
What is the Benihana?
The Benihana is a one-foot grab trick that requires you to be in the air to perform it. As such, you cannot perform it on flat ground. You'll need to use a ramp, a quarter pipe, or any other lifted surface to get airborne. Fortunately, the city of San Vansterdam is filled with great spots for practicing this and other tricks, and for quests, the game will even provide you with the necessary ramps.
The Controls: More Than Just a Button Press
While the game's "Skatepedia" lists the basic controls, the realityof performing the Benihana is a little more nuanced. Simply pressing the buttons at the same time will often result in a different trick, suchas a One-Foot Air or a Boned Ollie.
- Xbox: Right Stick UP + L2 + X
- PS4/PS5: Right Stick UP + L2 + Square
The secret to a successful Benihana lies in a precise sequence of actions:
- Launch from a ramp: The trick must be performed in the air, so start by launching off a ramp.
- Hold the Right Stick UP: While in the air, hold the Right Stick UP. This is the first input for the grab.
- Press L2: While still holding the Right Stick UP, press the L2 button (or L2/LB on PlayStation/Xbox).
- Release and Press: This is the most critical step. You must release the Right Stick UP and then very quickly press the X or Square button. The speed of this last button press is what differentiates the Benihana from a simple One-Foot Air.
Goofy vs. Regular: A Crucial Setting
The controls above assume your default stance is Goofy. If you are a player whose default stance is set to Regular, you will need to use R2 instead of L2 for the trick.
- How to check your stance:
- Go to Settings from the main menu.
- Select Gameplay > Controls > Preferences.
- Here you can confirm or change your Default Stance.
By making sure your controls are set for your preferred stance, you canavoid a lot of frustration and start landing this impressive trick.
Practice Makes Perfect: A Humanized Touch
The Benihana is a perfect example of the "easy to learn, difficult tomaster" gameplay of the Skate series. It's not just about memorizing abutton combo; it's about developing the muscle memory and timing to pull it off consistently. The game's new engine and physics system add alayer of realism that makes landing a difficult trick feel incrediblyrewarding. So, don't get discouraged if you accidentally pull off adifferent trick at first. With a little practice and patience, you'll be able to master the Benihana and add a new level of style to your linesin Skate.
