If you want to play with your friends in cooperative mode, the first thing you have to do is invite the person you want to play with to your session or vice versa. To experience the full game with other people, you can start a cooperative campaign when starting the experience. You can organize or join a cooperative campaign. While you won't need to start a co-op campaign from the beginning to play with others, you can access the co-op setting by pausing the game.

To invite your friends you will have to go through the Co-Op settings > select "Invite a friend" > select the person in the friends list and when you click invite, you will see an invitation confirmation popup and you will have to press or click "continue".
