The Pokémon Company is very clear about the fronts it wants to take with Pokémon RPG Switch from now on. In recent interviews both with Junichi Masuda, director of canonical deliveries, and with Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of TPC, it has become clear that splitting production into Game Freak into a traditional track and another based on Pokemon Let's Go is a possibility.

Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu / Eevee will be the first to arrive at Nintendo Switch this coming November 16; they will be titles for the youngest, with simplified mechanics and connection with the successful Pokémon GO. By avoiding random combats and betting on cooperative gameplay, some fans were left with the feeling that something was missing. And that something we will have at the end of 2019 with the expected Pokémon RPG Switch.

Release: second half of 2019
Those who expect to see material from that eighth generation of the saga before the departure of Let's Go may be waiting, because right now media coverage of the title will revolve around the couple of titles, which are the ones that must guarantee sales right now expected. But as of January, things change. As in Generation VI and Generation VII, announced in January and February of its launch year respectively, we would not be surprised if the bombardment of small doses of information began to occur in the first quarter.

What we know about those titles, thanks in large part to the last 20-page issue published by Famitsu, is that they will be completely new deliveries, which will include new Pokémon and advance the gameplay seen to date in the most recent canon works. In other words, Generation VIII. The tendency in these last two is not to exceed 70 new creatures, although it is true that in the sixth we had dozens of Megaevolutions and in the seventh it was the same with many Alola Forms. The regional variants in the aspect of the species are not discarded, so it is to be expected that they may return in creatures this time from Johto or Hoenn with new aspects that adapt to the climatology of the place, since a new generation implies a new region with its customs, climate, geography and traditions.

Masuda has recognized on more than one occasion that in his international trips by plane he has been inspired to design new regions. In the first four, everything was based on Japan (Kyusshu, Hokkaido, Kanto ...), while the fifth was in New York, sixth in France and seventh in Hawaii. Some ask for the return to Europe, to explore the British Isles or, why not, to address the North African area along the Iberian Peninsula, very diverse environments with each other with a cultural richness from which these works could be greatly benefited.

New generation:

more creatures, technical and playable improvements
Having Nintendo Switch within the reach of the Game Freak nuclear group will serve to give a new technical style to the saga. Let's Go have opted for the preciosity, so striking in the eyes of the younger players; but like Black and White (Generation V) they changed direction to darker and more mature environments, even in the design of characters, creatures, environments and history, it is more than likely that Junichi Masuda is considering the possibility of returning to that direction for a very simple reason: almost 70% of Nintendo Switch users are of legal age. Of the probably more than 35 million users that Switch has when these deliveries are put on sale at the end of 2019, many millions will come from playing in GBA, DS and 3DS; they will at least go one step further.

The promise is that "we are focusing on them as the culmination of our work with Pokemon Nintendo 3DS." Remaining above that is the priority, and this time it will be the first with a console capable of playing content in Full HD resolution on TV and 720p on a laptop. The reassurance that they will be completely new titles rejects the idea of the remakes of Sinnoh (Generation IV) for now. Pearl and Diamond can wait because these are being made completely from scratch. If they will return to the Gymnasiums system or re-base the experience in the tour of the region with tests still to be seen.

And let's not forget the mechanics. The Joy-Con have gyroscopes, something that can be used in minigames to train the EVs or for the equivalent that is taken out of the manga in Pokémon, Pokéathlon, etc. The new way of capturing creatures does not hurt anyone as long as traditional methods are respected, but a new platform raises new ways of playing that should not be overlooked in Japanese studio offices.

Online payment and games in the cloud

We also know that they will require subscription to Nintendo Switch Online to play online against friends, competitive matches and exchanges, something that the couple will not forget this November. Leaving aside that practice already established from now on, it is necessary to guarantee the Pokémon Bank, the storage services in the cloud of hundreds of creatures of the last two generations. It will not be worth paying to play online if in case of loss of the console or cartridge we have lost the progress of hundreds of hours. Safeguard progress with games in the cloud is a promise that must be fulfilled to the letter.

There is still a lot left for the launch of Pokémon RPG Switch, deliveries that will arrive just when the hybrid console has an installed base of users that allows to dream of breaking records that we have not seen in major deliveries during the last decade. Meanwhile there is a huge stretch to go, including the imminent E3 2018 that starts next week.
