The mechanics of Storm Surge were introduced in the update patch v6.31, during season 6 of Fortnite. This mechanism is responsible for inflicting damage to players during a certain period of time, periodically, usually after a "Storm Surge warning" appears.

According to the update patch notes, "if a certain number of players stay by the time the Storm finishes closing, a Storm Surge will activate." That is to say that the appearance of this mechanism depends on the number of players that are left with respect to the closing of each cycle.

The Storm Surge mechanism was created with the primary goal of avoiding extremely passive Fortnite matches, in which all players focus solely on survival without trying to eliminate their opponents. This means that players who have less damage inflicted during the game will receive damage periodically to:

- Let the Storm Surge end.
- That said player is not among the distributors of damage with lower amounts.

Pattern of the Fortnite's Storm Surge

- Circle 9 closes: if 2 players remain in the area.

How to avoid damage to Storm Surge from Fortnite

Taking into account what we mentioned earlier regarding the operation of the Storm Surge and its appearance pattern, you can easily infer what we are going to recommend.
- Aggressive Game Mode. Try to inflict as much damage as possible in order to accumulate a much larger amount than other players.

- Survival Game Mode. Wait for the threshold of the player with the least amount of damage to be met in that match.
- Combined Game Mode. Inflict as much damage as possible in order to accumulate more than other players, but then wait for the player with the least amount of damage to be met.

In case you use the second form, if you wait too long you may begin to passively lose life on the part of the Storm Surge, becoming a victim of it. That being the case, it may be better to seek a victim to inflict damage, although exposing yourself too much could also harm you.

Given the pros and cons of the first two options we present, we can also choose a third way, which is the combination of these two. The best way to avoid damage by Fortnite Storm Surge is to maintain a game mode both aggressive and survival in which you try to accumulate the greatest amount of damage inflicted seeking to outperform other players while you also concentrate on your survival.
