The first thing you have to do before leaving Mahana Village is to find a Felyne who runs Melynx Inc, a vendor of special items that you can get in exchange for bottle caps, which you can get from Everdens (special monster lairs scattered around all the world).

You can also go with the main story mission, your first Everden to get 10 bottle caps, then you must go back to the Melynx to increase your Stable.

The barn blueprint appears on the Item Exchange tab for a price of five bottle caps.
