The following settings offer an excellent balance of performance and visual quality. The recommendations are geared toward achieving a stable 60+ FPS experience on a mid-to-high-end PC, but they are a great starting point for any system.
Setting Name | Best Preset | Notes |
Display Settings | ||
Screen Mode | Borderless Fullscreen | While there is no exclusive fullscreen option, borderless fullscreen works well and allows for easy tabbing in and out of the game without issues. |
Render Resolution | Native | Always start with your monitor's native resolution. We will use AI upscalers to boost performance rather than rendering at a lower base resolution, which can make the image look blurry. |
V-Sync | Off | It is highly recommended to disable the in-game V-Sync. If you experience screen tearing, use your monitor's G-Sync or FreeSync technology instead to reduce input latency, especially when paired with Frame Generation. |
Gameplay Frame Rate | Your preference (60, 90, 120, Unlimited) | For a smooth, cinematic experience, 60 FPS is a great target. However, if you have a high-refresh-rate monitor and a powerful PC, choose a higher frame rate (e.g., 120 FPS or Unlimited) for more fluid gameplay. |
Cinematic Frame Rate | Unlimited | Match this with your gameplay frame rate. The game’s cinematics were initially locked at 30 FPS, which could cause jarring transitions. Setting this to Unlimited (if your PC can handle it) will make cutscenes much smoother and consistent with your gameplay. |
Quality Preset | Custom | Use a custom preset to fine-tune each individual setting below. This gives you full control to balance visuals and performance. |
Anti-Aliasing & Upscaling | ||
Anti-Aliasing & Upscaling | NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR | For NVIDIA RTX GPU users, select DLSS. For AMD users, select FSR. Both are excellent AI upscalers that render the game at a lower resolution and use smart technology to upscale the image, giving you a huge FPS boost with minimal visual loss. |
Upscaling Mode | Balanced | The "Balanced" setting provides the best compromise between image quality and performance. If you need more frames, try "Performance." If you have more GPU headroom, "Quality" can provide a sharper image. |
Sharpness | Preference (0.2 to 0.5) | After upscaling, some textures may appear a bit soft or blurry. Use this slider to add a little bit of sharpness. A value between 0.2 and 0.5 is usually a good range to start with. |
Frame Generation | On (if supported) | If your GPU supports Frame Generation (e.g., NVIDIA RTX 40-series, AMD RX 7000-series), it is highly recommended to turn this on. It uses AI to generate new frames between existing ones, which can provide a massive FPS boost. If your game already runs well at 60 FPS without it, you can keep it off to minimize input lag. |
Quality Settings | ||
Motion Blur | Off | A matter of personal preference, but turning this off provides a clearer, sharper image, making it easier to track enemies and spot details in fast-paced scenarios. |
Global Illumination | Epic | This is a key visual setting that dramatically affects the game’s lighting. The visual difference between High and Epic is significant. Unless you are desperate for a performance boost, keeping this on Epic is highly recommended for the best look. |
Shadows | Medium | Shadows can be very demanding on your GPU. Medium provides a good visual without a major performance hit. If you have extra performance to spare, bumping this up to High is a good choice for improved realism. |
Reflections | Medium | Reflections can be particularly taxing in certain areas of the game (e.g., near water or polished surfaces). Keeping this at Medium will prevent major FPS dips in these moments. |
View Distance | Far | Setting this to Far can help reduce texture pop-in and improve the overall sense of depth in Sicily’s sprawling landscapes. This has a moderate impact on performance, so if you're struggling with FPS, this is a good place to lower the setting. |
Textures | GPU Dependant | The Texture setting is primarily dependent on your graphics card's VRAM.
|
Foliage | Medium | Foliage, especially in open-world areas, can take a heavy toll on performance. Keep this at Medium for a good balance of visuals and smooth frames. |
Effects | Epic | This setting controls visual effects like explosions, smoke, and debris. It has a relatively low impact on performance and greatly enhances the action, so it's a good candidate for the Epic setting. |
Post Processing | High | Post Processing affects various screen-space effects like bloom and color grading. High offers a great visual without being as demanding as Epic. |
These settings were tested on a high-end gaming laptop with an Intel i9-14900HX CPU and an NVIDIA RTX 4080 GPU at 1440p resolution. With the recommended settings above, the game averaged 70-85 FPS, with 1% lows staying at a very respectable 60 FPS even in graphically intense scenes.
A quick note on the starting sequence: The game's very first section in the mines may have a brief period of extremely low FPS. This is a known issue, but it should resolve itself once you get through the first cutscene and gain control of your character. From there, the game will run at the proper frame rates according to your settings. Enjoy your journey into the old country!
