The first thing you have to do is go to the main menu of the game > go to Options in the lower left corner to access a new screen > under amiibo is the Control Mode setting, which will be dimmed or not depending on what you use to play.
In case of playing with a Joy-Cons, the Control Mode option will not be dimmed, an you will be able to choose between Motion Controls or Button Only Controls.
In case you are using a Switch Pro Controller, the button-only controls will be active by default, and you will not have the possibility to switch to motion controls.
