In
Grounded 2, the survival mechanics are a key part of the experience. Your character has a Thirst meter that constantly decreases, and if left unattended, it can lead to negative status effects. While Creative mode allows you to bypass this mechanic, survival mode players will need to actively manage their hydration. This guide will cover the effects of drinking nasty water and, more importantly, how to find and store clean drinking water.
What Happens When You Drink Nasty Water?
Nasty water is a temporary solution to thirst but comes with significant downsides. When you drink it, you will receive the
Sick status effect.
- Sick Status Effect: This status effect indicates that "Contaminated water is causing your stomach to toss and turn." When sick, your Hunger meter will deplete much faster than usual.
- Compounding Sickness: The more nasty water you drink, the more the Sick status effect will accumulate, causing your Hunger meter to drain at an even more rapid rate.
- Negative Consequences: If your Hunger meter drops too low, your character's max stamina will be reduced, making it harder to sprint, fight, and perform other actions.
To cure the Sick status effect, you must rest. When your character is tired enough to sleep, find your Lean-To or other shelter and rest.
How to Find Clean Drinking Water
The key to staying hydrated and healthy is to find and store clean drinking water.
Early Game: Dew Drops
In the beginning of your playthrough, the most accessible source of clean water is Dew Drops.
- Location: Dew Drops are found on top of grass blades, leaves, and other plants.
- Harvesting: Since they are often hard to reach, you can use a Spear or a Pebble to knock them down to the ground for easy consumption.
- Immediate Consumption: In the early game, you can only drink Dew Drops immediately after theyfall. You won't be able to store them until you have access to moreadvanced crafting recipes.
Mid-to-Late Game: Storing and Collecting
As you progress and gather more resources, you'll unlock the ability tostore and passively collect water, which is essential for longerexpeditions and base management.
- Canteen: This portable item allows you to carry water with you on the go.
- Materials: 3 Grub Hide, 2 Crude Rope
- Water Container: This is a larger storage unit for your base, providing a safe, static location to keep a supply of water.
- Materials: 3 Acorn Shell, 2 Crude Rope, 1 Clover Leaf
- Dew Collector: This passive structure automatically collects Dew Drops for you overtime. It's a great way to ensure a steady supply of clean water at yourbase.
- Materials: 5 Crude Rope, 6 Weed Stem, 8 Pebblet, 5 Silk Rope
