Genshin Impact's summer event takes players to a floating world of Simulacra for a string of challenging combat exercises. As you sail through the Metropole Trials, you will be given a tough time by solid enemies and complex puzzles. Whether you aim to climb the leaderboards or just collect event rewards, this guide will detail the very best approaches and know-how to pass each phase with flying colors.
How to complete Metropole Trials in Genshin Impact?
The Domain of the Metropole Trials is a secretive enclave located on a small island sitting southeast of the lively Constellation Metropole. This mysterious area can be visited when you progress further into the Summertide Scales and Tales event quests. As you progress towards the colorful city, to the left you will see a large blue door. It's hard to miss. One needs only to speak with Alof, the playful toy man, found there, to activate his trials. His presence is an entrance that will propel you into this demanding field of testing your skills.
How do Metropole Trials work?
Metropole Trials represents another high-difficulty battle where you are tasked to gain as many points as possible through the quick defeat of wave after wave of enemies. The more enemies you defeat consecutively in quick succession, the more points you will have. Note that a minimum of 5,000 points per stage is required to gain full rewards from this event.
First, select your difficulty through the domain door. If you want the maximum points possible, then you will want to go with Fearless. If you're not up for the challenge, you can select lower difficulties, but with fewer points awarded for each defeated baddie.
After having chosen your stage, you will be taken to the party setup screen. You have two teams made to conquer the trial in two phases. The characters you take into these two teams directly influence the number of combat buffs turned on. Put a varied character pool in both teams if you want to maximize the bonus points; otherwise, using the same team twice will limit it to a certain number of buffs that can be turned on.
Right from the very start of the battle, waves of enemies will be sent rushing toward you. You have to kill them off as soon as possible in order to earn the points and gradually fill your Valor meter. At the top of the Valor meter lies the peak, where all the selected buffs from the character setup are triggered, granting extra points for killing off enemies. Using these buffs strategically will greatly increase your score.
Consider that speed and efficiency are the keys to Metropole Trials. Proper difficulty selection, well-rounded teams, and Valor buffs will maximize the points you can earn toward all event rewards.
Honed Vanguard
The Honed Vanguard is the first Metropole Trial and contains a challenge in two parts. The former comprises fast, low-health enemies, while the latter half contains larger, heavily armored enemies. Valor buffs favor Skill damage more.
For the first phase, the composition of your team isn't that important, though it should contain crowd control and AoE. Thus, characters like Kazuha, Sucrose, or Venti are pretty good at keeping enemies together for easier whacking.
This phase is more suited for Geo-focused teams. Using Geo Claymore, such as Noelle or Itto, can quickly break the enemy shields while utilizing the Skill damage Valor buffs. Albedo and Chiori synergize well with this composition. My Navia team worked well in this phase, though other Geo-centric builds should also be successful.
Resolute Foe
Resolute Foe is the second Metropole Trial, with an extremely mixed enemy lineup. The mix of larger and smaller foes—as much as the first half pits Travelers against a mix of intimidating foes, including many large enemies and even a few frightening Lawachurls, the second half boasts Ruin machines, notably resistant to crowd control effects.
The Test provides a Valor buff that will boost Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack damage, which benefits most of the main DPS characters. On top of the above list, Neuvillette, Xiao, Wanderer, Hu Tao, Yoimiya, Diluc, Childe, and Cyno are powerful in this test challenge. While Pyro was good in the first half of this test, it may be difficult for certain characters—most notably Hu Tao and Yoimiya—to clear waves of smaller enemies effectively due to a lack of AoE features.
Device Suppression
One of the more daunting challenges against such a diverse array of mechanical adversaries is the third Metropole Trial, Device Suppression. There will be enormous machines needing focused firepower in the first phase, and later in the second phase, it will be a frantic encounter with a host of smaller and agile enemies. The valor buffs given to the players will help in overcoming these trials by greatly amplifying the Burst damage along with the Energy Recharge, further opening strategic opportunities in terms of team makeup.
This first phase is best with a single-target-oriented team. Here, the worth of characters with potent Bursts and really good synergy with the Valor buffs, like Xingqiu, Yelan, Xiangling, and Beidou, is very clear. Characters such as Hu Tao and Yoimiya perform well in this meta because of their very high damage output. That being said, any well-geared team who is capable of destroying the primary target quickly can succeed.
This second phase requires a much more universal approach, emphasizing crowd control and area-of-effect damage. In my playthrough, this was played well with a Ganyu Freeze team supplemented by Venti's gathering ability. Other characters such as Kazuha or Sucrose might also do the job. In this case, the player can breeze through the troublesome phase of keeping enemies at a distance by controlling their placement and bearing large amounts of AoE damage.
Fierce Faceoff
The final of the Metropole Trials is most definitely the most challenging: Fierce Faceoff. This gauntlet pits you against a relay of rather formidable foes—ranging from the tanky Husks and the energy-draining Vishaps to the pesky Rifthounds and resilient Eremite summoners. While very helpful, the Valor buffs may be trickier than usual to maximize, given the enemy composition.
The first half is like an endurance test. Shadowy Husks, weak to shield-breakers, spawn alongside Bathysmal Vishaps and Rifthounds, both capable of draining your team's resources. To endure such an onslaught, the character needs a strong healer and crowd control, much like Kazuha.
The second half may be quite difficult. Eremite summoners and Kairagi pairs are tricky in terms of strategy, and a Hydro phantasm brings their problems with them. Venti can really flip things around when dealing with Eremite summons, but adaptability is the key. As always, it comes down to your Counterplay against certain enemy mechanisms and leveraging your team's strength.
Rewards's Metropole Trials
Getting all 5,000 points in each stage of the Metropole Trials will yield a treasure chest worth quite a lot. It includes 120 Primogems, the premium in-game currency, next to 180 Starsail Coils required for the purchase of event-exclusive figurines. In order to further help characters level, this reward will also include a pretty beefy 240,000 Mora, which is the standard in-game currency. For those who want to enhance their characters' abilities, which aid in skill upgrades, three of each Fontaine Talent book are provided. On the other hand, it contains some character leveling materials in the form of 12 Hero's Wits and 12 Sanctifying Unctions. Players will receive six Mystic Enhancement Ores as the last gift to support weapon refinement.
