Minecraft is a video game full of creativity, exploration and fun. A little bit different from a Vegas casino online but still an amazing game.

It’s existed for almost twenty two years, having been first released in 2009. It’s gone through a lot of changes since it’s first creation. The game has at least one update every year and has been consistent in that goal for almost the entire time it’s been around.

Because of how frequent these updates can be it can be easy to lose track of what is going to come out in the next update.

Especially with the fact that on top of the frequent updates themselves still in development beta features get released in test builds every week for months until the update itself releases.

Stuff gets added, tested, removed all the time during this period so following it can be tricky if you don’t have the time to sit and look at everything new that’s added each week.

Luckily the main features of the update are announced before any sort of test builds even start coming out.

With that and with glances at what is being developed from the builds themselves you can make a guess at all the features coming the new update pretty easily.

Along with some other knowledge you should know about the new Minecraft update here is a comprehensive guide to everything that’s coming.

Why was the update split into two parts?

If you were looking into this Minecraft update all the way back when it first announced you would have thought that all of these features were supposed to have released back at the beginning of this summer with the 1.17 update.

You would’ve been correct too, that was in fact the original plan.

Of course, plans don’t always work out how they are supposed to.

Turns out, developing a video game is a lot of hard work. The developers at Mojang studios (the people who make Minecraft) weren’t able to release all of the new features they planned by that deadline.

Or if they did it wouldn’t have been close to how they wanted the features to turn out.

So they decided the best plan was to split the update into two parts. One being 1.17 the other being 1.18.

Most of the items and new blocks, along with a lot of the new creatures were added in 1.17 whereas 1.18 is going to have the highly anticipated new generation system for mountains, caves and the world in general.

The first part of the update (1.17) has already come out whereas the next part (1.18) will be coming out sometime during the end of 2021 or possibly early 2022.

You can already play with experimental beta features from 1.18 today, as they are already releasing in development builds of the game and new update.

These are great if you really want a sneak peak at what’s coming in the new update.

How mountains are changing in Minecraft 1.18

The update’s official name is the Cave and Cliffs update, making it no surprise that they will in fact be updating the games cliffs, or mountains.

The biggest change they made to the mountains was just making them taller.

They raised the limit in the world from which no more blocks could be generated and placed so now mountains can just be a lot taller without hitting the “roof”.

This simple change completely changes how mountains feel when you see and try and climb that.

Before they always had this vibe of just really big hills, both in how short they were and also how they were kind of just shaped like lumps in the ground, not very mountain like.

This changes completely in the new update. Mountains are hundreds of blocks taller, they now actually look like how real mountains should and are both harder and more dangerous to climb.

This is even more prominent with the new blocks and creatures that spawn on mountains now.

There are goats which roam in herds on mountain tops and side who will sometime be protective of their territory and their young so you have to watch out for them. There is also now a type of deeper snow.

It looks a lot like normal snow except you can fall into it and it will start freezing you.

It’s a kind of trap to keep you on your toes when you are trying to traverse this new terrain.

You either have to look closely for the slight differences in look between this lighter more dangerous snow and normal snow or you have to wear leather boots, which let you walk just on top of the new snow blocks.

How caves are changing in Minecraft 1.18

Just like how mountains were made taller to make them more realistic and generally a better experience caves had a very similar treatment except in the opposite direction.

The bottom of the world was moved down 64 blocks exactly to allow for caves to go much deeper.

When you get that deep though the caves transform from their original normal stone caves to a new deeper cave variant.

The caves are darker, the walls are made of a type of black stone for ambiance and everything takes longer to mine and break. There are going to be new threats in the caves this far down but not all of these have been announced.

Of the new threats that have been announced we know of the Warden.

The Warden is a type of blind very large lumbering beast that lives very deep down. It exists to guard something but exactly what it is defending also hasn’t been announced.

The Warden is blind so obviously it can’t attack you just when it sees you. It finds things through vibrations and sounds. Apparently the best way to fight it is going to be to simply not.

It won’t be a battle you fight with a sword but with distractions and trying to stay as quiet as possible. Surely whatever it’s guarding will make this new type of cat and mouse game well worth it.

Along with the Warden there are other mobs being added to caves such as Axolotl and Glow Squids.

Axolotl are based a real word endangered species called Axolotl. They are a type of aquatic lizard and they are really cute.

Glow Squids are less real but could be. They are just like normal squids in the game except they are bio luminescent or in simple terms, they glow.

Its a great method for adding ambient lighting to places that are now going to be very dark by themselves. Personally I think it’s a great choice for the game.

And our choices matter. Because the Glow Squid was actually chosen from four different creature ideas on a vote done online.

Along with all of these new creatures that are being added there are also a very large amount of new blocks and generations.

There are stalagmite and stalactites being added, caves will now generate sometimes in wider more open caves. A lot more like how real caves look and form.

With these are a wide variety of new cave types. Things like lush caves which are full of exotic underground cave plants, flooded caves which you will have to dive into to explore and much much more.

As you can see there are certainly a lot of things to get excited about in the new update. I hope you’re looking forward to it as much as I am.
