League of Legends (LoL) by Riot Games is one of the most popular games in the world, with more than 180 million monthly active players in 2022, as per techacake.com. However, one common complaint about the multiplayer online battle arena game is that there is no console version, catering only to Microsoft Windows and OS X. Considering this, Riot Games released Ruined King: A League of Legends Story in November 2021. The game is a spin-off to LoL and shares the same universe and characters as its parent title.

The gaming community was initially surprised by the news since League of Legends had been around since 2009, and Riot Games never indicated the universe was moving to the console market. Yet, there were no complaints. Finally, PlayStation and Xbox users had something, and Ruined King has even surpassed everyone’s expectations for how connected it is to the League of Legends universe. In this article, we’re going to explore some of the best LoL easter eggs placed throughout the spin-off.

It’s time to save Bilgewater, Captain. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story from @AirshipSyn is available now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation, Steam, GOG, and Epic Games.

Ruined King: An Ode To League Of Legends

Available Items

Like all role-playing games, players get to equip their champions with different items to use throughout their journey, and Ruined King offers four categories to choose from — Neck, Trinket, Armor, and Ring. It's here where players will see the first of many LoL easter eggs in the game, as each category includes items of the past and present in the original League of Legends game. For example, players will find items like the Deadman Plate and Doran’s Ring in Ruined King. If you’re interested in learning more about the different available items in League of Legends, you can check out items similar to Doran’s Ring on rankedboost.com.

Character Name Dropping

There is a lot of name-dropping of classic League of Legends champions in the Ruined King spin-off. Players can find League champions like Miss Fortune in the game, but they can also overhear conversations in Bilgewater about other champions like Fiddlesticks, Elise, and Fizz. Players can also read about these characters in newspapers found throughout the game.

League Still Prevails

Even though Ruined King has given PlayStation and Xbox players the chance to experience the League of Legends universe and characters, all of the easter eggs in the spin-off that reference its parent title just remind us why the game is so popular in the first place. In fact, League of Legends is popular enough that the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has returned this year, one of the biggest international events in the LoL ecosystem behind the World Championship.

If you don’t know, the MSI sees the top 11 LoL teams from across the globe battle it out in Busan, South Korea, for the winning title, prize pool, and trophy. The event includes three stages, beginning with the group stage, which you can read about on gaming platforms like win.gg. Following the group stage, the remaining teams compete in the rumbles stage and then the knockout stage to secure a spot in the grand final. The 2022 final will be a best-of-five; it will transpire on May 29.

League of Legends isn’t just a game; it’s an experience with a flourishing community. For a while, the game felt exclusive, as PlayStation and Xbox users had to watch from the sidelines. However, the spin-off game of Ruined King has changed that, and it even gives players a taste of the original game through the use of easter eggs. Still, it’s fair to say that Ruined King has room to grow in the next few years if it wants to catch up to the popularity of its parent title.
