The developer and distributor of videogames, Ubisoft Entertainment, has announced that it is working on a technology by means of which it avoids using digital activation codes for PC. This new technology will require the provision of a Uplay account to make purchases.
Ubisoft wants to eliminate the digital activation codes for PC with which they proceeded to activate their video games. This is because the illegal practices for which this method has been provided have been of such great magnitude that it has served as a motivation for the developer to search for a viable technological solution, an alternative that offers the possibility of separating in terms of offering codes of activation to distributors and final customers. In this sense, Ubisoft has developed a method known as Silent Key Activation (or SKA, for its acronym), which has been designed in conjunction with Genba Digital.
Ubisoft Crack Down On CD Key Fraud
A UPlay account is required with SKA: Ubisoft eliminates digital activation codes
The idea of Ubisoft is to have a kind of intermediary between them and the stores. The way they solve it is that in the purchase process the users will be asked for the details of their UPlay account. After completing the process, the game by which the economic process was generated will appear in the player's library without the need to use a digital activation codes.
With this process of the Silent Key Activation, whose purpose is to eliminate this exchange generated before with activation codes, Genba Digital intends to make disappear the black market of those keys offered at lower prices.
Genba Digital CEO Matt Murphy explains that "This gives publishers control over the products they distribute." Making reference to the new SKA method. According to the CEO, "if someone enters a website like Fanatical and buys a product from Ubisoft," "The game will be activated automatically in UPlay, Fanatical does not receive the key, nor the players." This also means that if that user does not have a UPlay account, then he will be obliged to create a new one, before he can complete the process.
All the information revealed refers to the fact that the French developer and distributor Ubisoft Entertainment will stop selling PC games in digital markets that do not use SKA. While for its part, Matt Murphy of Genba Digital has reiterated that SKA system is as safe as traditional purchases directly from UPlay or Steam.
