Ask any sports fan, particularly fans of sports video games, the last twelve months have simply been epic. Just before Christmas, we got to witness Lionel Messi etch his name into the history books as the greatest footballer of all time as he led Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory in Qatar. Then, just last month, we saw Patrick Mahomes take over the mantle from Tom Brady as the NFL’s top star as he led his Kansas City Chiefs to the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LVII.

Both of those moments were perfectly captured by EA Sports, which produces both the FIFA and Madden franchises. The Los Angeles-based sports game behemoth was highly commended for how they incorporated real-life events at the FIFA World Cup into their video game, both in the Qatar 2022 specific game mode and in their money-spinning Ultimate Team mode.

Throughout the four-week festival of football in the desert last winter, EA Sports introduced a whole host of objectives, squad-building challenges, and supercharged cards. Ultimate Team, or FUT for short. The game has come in for criticism over the years as it can feel like one is attempting to play roulette online for real money as they try and build the best squad possible. But as is the case with roulette on websites like Cafe Casino, occasionally you can hit it big and receive substantial rewards.

That’s exactly what EA Sports, and more importantly their players, did last winter. But as the clock ticks into 2023, it is time to look toward the future, rather than the past. And with that being said, here are two upcoming sports game releases that we simply cannot wait to install and play.

WWE 2K23

The next few weeks are the best time to be a fan of professional wrestling. That’s because WWE, the planet’s premiere wrestling organization, is on the Road to WrestleMania, the biggest show of the year. The Show of Shows takes place on the weekend of April 1st and April 2nd.

To make things even better, 2KSports’ critically acclaimed WWE 2K franchise has decided to release its newest game, WWE 2K23, on March 14th. That will give fans the unique opportunity to play the new release for a fortnight prior to the Granddaddy of Them All getting underway.

The card for WrestleMania 39 is starting to take shape, and there are a number of mouth-watering clashes looming large on the horizon. Former UFC and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will be facing off with the giant Omos, who stands well over seven feet tall. YouTube sensation Logan Paul - who stole the show when he competed for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in Saudi Arabia last November - will face off with the iconic Seth Rollins.

There will also be two women’s championship matches on the card. SmackDown women’s champion Charlotte Flair will defend her championship against 2023 women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. On the red brand, Raw women’s champion Bianca Belair faces off with Japanese sensation Asuka.

However, the fight that the world is salivating over is the showdown between Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and 2023 men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes. The champion hasn’t been pinned or submitted since December 2019 and has held the Universal Championship for over 900 days. Many feel that his challenger however could be The Tribal Chief’s kryptonite, and we may actually see his legendary title reign come to an end.

If the ratings on WWE 2K23 are anything to go by, however, the American Nightmare will have his work cut out. Following his sensational run, the Head of the Table is rated a perfect 99 overall and he will be as unbeatable virtually as he is in real-life. Could you be the one to end it all on March 14th?

F1 2023

If the WWE has an unstoppable monster in Roman Reigns, then the world of Formula One has an unbeatable sensation of its own. That man is of course Max Verstappen.

The 25-year-old Dutchman romped to a second consecutive Formula One World Championship last season and he did so in record-breaking fashion. He won 17 out of a possible 22 races last term, an achievement that no other driver throughout history has ever managed to achieve. In the upcoming campaign, he is the odds-on favorite to make it three championships on the spin.

But in 2023, he should have more competition than he did last year. Ferrari has produced a car capable of winning races. And in Charles Leclerc, they have a driver that is every bit as talented as the reigning world champion.

Over at Mercedes, they have the greatest driver of all time in their ranks, Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion endured a turbulent year in 2022 and it was the first season throughout his illustrious 15-year career in which he didn’t manage a single race victory. He will be aiming to put that right when the new campaign gets underway in Bahrain on March 19th.

The new Formula One game will once again be published by Codemasters, in association with EA Sports, and if F1 2022 - a game which we have a whole host of how-to guides for - is anything to go by, it will be another banger of a game. It will be released toward the end of June, and the excitement of gamers worldwide has already reached a fever pitch. Will you be able to lead Hamilton back to the mountaintop one last time once F1 2023 is available to download?
