Armor is an indispensable component for your characters in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Without it, you'll lack the crucial physical and magical defense needed to withstand enemy onslaughts. Armor also provides elemental resistances, a vital consideration when venturing into new and dangerous areas. While purchasing armor from stores like the Armory in Eternia Village or Mysteria Capital is an option, the most potent and effective armor pieces are best crafted using one of your specialized Crafting Lives.Although the strongest armor and weapons should prioritize your active party members, certain Fantasy Life i quests will specifically request good quality equipment. Since high-quality gear isn't available for purchase, investing time into leveling your crafting Lives becomes essential. One of the most frequently requested items by your villagers is the
Hunter's Hood.
Fantasy Life i: Make Good Quality Hunter’s Hood
Which Life Can Make Hunter's Hood?
To craft a Hunter's Hood, you will need to unlock and progress in the
Tailor Life.
Unlocking Hunter's Hood Crafting:
- You can choose the Tailor Life early in your playthrough, typically as soon as you begin Auntie Anne's quest to earn 10,000 Dosh.
- The Hunter's Hood is a Level 2 crafting recipe. If you don't see it available or are consistently failing to craft it, focus on raising your Tailor Life level and equipping a stronger Needle (your Tailor tool).
Hunter's Hood Crafting Ingredients:
To make the Hunter's Hood, you will need the following materials:
- x1 Wool
- x3 Dandelion Cotton
- x1 Woven Straw Fabric
All three of these materials can be crafted through the Tailor Life itself. Alternatively, they can be purchased from the Material Shop in Eternia Village or Mysteria Capital.Tip for New Players: If you're early in your Fantasy Life i journey, it's generally more economical to craft these materials yourself. This helps you conserve Dosh, which is better saved for expanding your Base Camp.
How to Get Dandelion Cotton
The
Dandelion Cotton recipe is a
Tailor Fledgling Recipe, meaning it will be one of the first recipes available to you immediately after completing the Tailor Life starter quest.
- To make x1 Dandelion Cotton, you'll need x2 Dandelion Puff.
- Dandelion Puffs are distinguishable by their prominent white 'heads'. They are easy to spot and can be found by searching the areas directly outside Eternia Village.
How to Get Woven Straw Fabric
The
Woven Straw Fabric can either be purchased or crafted. Its crafting recipe is also a
Fledgling Recipe, just like Dandelion Cotton.
- You'll need x2 Straw Thread to make x1 Woven Straw Fabric.
- Straw Thread can be collected in the Capital of Mysteria. Specifically, look for it near the oak trees and the castle moat by the southeast bridge leading into the capital.
- Additionally, Corny enemies have a chance of dropping Straw Thread upon defeat.
How to Get Wool
Unlike Dandelion Cotton and Woven Straw Fabric,
Wool is a
Tailor Apprentice Recipe. This means you'll need to advance your Tailor Life to the next stage (Apprentice) to unlock its crafting recipe. You can do this by completing Tailor Life quests and reporting to the Tailor HQ in Eternia Village.Once you unlock Apprentice recipes, the Wool crafting recipe will be added to your list. Again, you have the option to purchase Wool from the Materials store or craft it yourself.
- You need x2 Sheep Fleece to make x1 Wool.
- As their name suggests, Sheep Fleece is an enemy drop obtained from defeating White Woolies. These creatures can be found to the southwest of the Mysteria Capital, but only during the day.
How to Get Good Quality or Higher Hunter's Hood
Achieving "Good" or higher quality gear in crafting requires understanding and optimizing your Skill Points.
Understanding Skill Points in Crafting:
- When you select a crafting recipe, you'll notice a Recommended bar with a numerical value. This number represents the recommended Skill Level for that specific recipe.
- If your current Skill Level (displayed on the left side of the screen) islower than the Recommended Level, you have a higher chance of failingthe craft, even if you perform well during the crafting minigame.
- To consistently craft good/great/top quality gear, your Skill Level should ideally be equal to or higher than the Recommended Level for the recipe.
Improving Your Tailor Skill Level:
To boost your Tailor Skill Level and increase your chances of crafting high-quality items:
Unlock Skill Nodes: Invest your Life Points into unlocking relevant Skill nodes within the Tailor Life's Skill Menu.Equip Better Tools: Use a higher-quality Needle. Equipping a fine-ranking Bronze Needle or an Iron Needle can provide a significant boost.Craft with a Tailor Buddy: Have a Tailor Buddy (Strangeling) with you when you craft. For example, the Wooly Chair Strangeling (Shea) can be found in the East Greatgut Plains of Ginormosia and provides a crafting bonus. The Recommended Level for the Hunter's Hood is 120. Once your Tailor Skill Points/Level meets or exceeds this number, you are in a good position to craft high-quality versions.
During the Crafting Minigame:
- During the minigame, aim to score "Great" or "Excellent" to ensure you obtain a good/great quality Hunter's Hood.
- Pay attention to the top of your screen, where you'll see the timer, thenumber of turns you have, and the stations you need to interact with for your current and next turns.
- Avoid failing crafts as much as possible, as failing will result in the loss of some of your valuable materials.
If you are successful, your good-quality Hunter's Hood will boast a higher defense stat (or magic defense stat) compared to a regular Hunter'sHood purchased from the Armory. If you're particularly lucky, thecrafted armor piece may even come with a valuable skill attached, suchas "Light Defense+".
Where to Use Hunter's Hood
The Hunter's Hood is a respectable piece of headgear for equipping whenyou're just starting your adventure. While you'll eventually replace itwith stronger armor as you rank up your other Lives, it will serve youwell in the beginning areas.
Should You Give It Away?
As you progress and begin reverting Strangelings back to normal, they will move into your Base Camp. Occasionally, a newly restored villager, especially when their Affinity is low or they've just joined, will have a request for you to craft a "Good or Better Hunter's Hood."
- Completing this request will reward you with a furniture item (specific to the villager), Dosh, and valuable Affinity points with that character.
- When fulfilling these requests, it's advisable to give them a Good or Higher quality Hunter's Hood that you are NOT currently wearing (i.e., not one equipped in your Equipment or Outfit menu). Keep thestronger Hunter's Hoods for yourself or your active party members.
- Remember that once you give away a Hunter's Hood for a quest, there's no way ofreclaiming it. Therefore, be sure you're not inadvertently giving away a piece with a particularly useful armor perk that you might want tokeep.
