In Enigma of Fear, as you continue searching for your father, you will come across and enter the eerie Strach Mansion. The first major challenge one would face here is the solution of the Advanced Lock puzzle that really tests your patience and detective skills to its fullest, thereby requiring acute vision and an intellect as sharp as a razor.
The Advanced Lock may seem to have no straightforward way to open, but an expert investigator should know that the finer point is where the key is hiding. Indeed, the mansion waits with many clues, and there you go when you unveil its mystery carefully instead of using your guesswork, with satisfaction for coming with the right solution.
How To Solve The Gear Symbols Puzzle in Enigma Of Fear?
You'll find the Advanced Lock in the Storage Room of the first floor of Strach Mansion, which is all the way to the left. As soon as you enter the mansion, equip your UV flashlight and follow the hidden splash marks on the floor that lead directly to your destination.
Be aware of Blood Zombies lurking in the hallways and rooms of the mansion. Sneak up behind these blind creatures and interact with them by pressing the interact key when it appears.
Inside, you will find a mechanical lock with three discs; each disc has eight symbols on it. You have to open the mechanism by setting the correct symbol on each disc to form an accurate pattern. Actually, the solution is found upstairs, but the most important clue of that was given by the rolled-up map in the Storage Room after using UV light on it.
The Storage Room contains a radio for contact with Agatha and Samuel. It will be most helpful to gain insights regarding several mysteries haunting the Strach family. Important items usually tied to those mysteries can sometimes trigger such valuable insight with your companions. What's more, you can even find comfort in this room with Lupi, your loyal companion, during really rough times.

Your journey starts with the map in the storage room. It details four rooms belonging to members of the Strach family, as well as three clocks on the upper floor. The altar room on the first floor is mentioned, but that information can be left aside for now.
The Pictures in the Master Bedroom
First, we have to pay attention to the room of the master bedroom placed on the left bottom area on the second floor; on the way, an alarm clock will ring, hence blood zombies are close. Check every obstacle that may be going on outside the room as you go in and prepare for another one inside.
There may be a myriad of things lying around the place, but nothing matters much as the set of sketches laid on the desk by the door. Ignore the rolled-up page; it is just an blueprint for the Advanced Lock. Pick instead your UV flashlight and reveal there are three sheets of papers with hidden drawings.
Detailed clockwork and other symbols have been sketched, scrawled on the bottom of the page with large captions reading "Time of Rise" and "Rise of the Unhaunted One." Written across a large question mark in one such image is a giant grandfather clock in invisible ink.
In the hallway, the grandfather clock is quite an eyesore, and when turned on with UVs, a set of curious symbols appears — similar to those used on the Advanced Lock — placed next to their corresponding numbers.
This exposes the entire mechanism of the lock: each disc represents hours, minutes, and seconds, while the symbols correspond to numbers. The final piece of the puzzle can only be unlocked by identifying the exact moment the Unhaunted One emerged.
The Journal, Timepiece, and Wake-Up Device
Head to Yuri's bedroom, which is in the bottom-right corner of the upper floor. Outside the room, there's a crumpled piece of paper on the floor. Read it to learn more and confirm that the Rise of the Unhaunted One indeed has to do with some vision the Strach family member had.
To learn about this vision, enter Yuri's bedroom and shine your UV flashlight on his diary, which lies on the table. Every night at a specific hour, an alarm clock sounds in the hall. Thiana, the mother, fills her room with music on those occasions. It was during one such unforgettable night that Yuri was seized by a vision of such force that he dropped his beloved watch in the sheer ecstasy of it.
To identify the exact timing of this apparition, the following can be examined:
- The alarm clock that woke them up
- The watch Yuri had broken
- The music room
The watch is in the drawer of the toy castle, and there you will find that its second hand always points to XI (11). The second lock entry is 11. Go back into the hall with the alarm clock and turn it a bit. You will find that it chimes just at 4 o'clock, which is the hour entry.
The Vinyl Record Welcome to Thiana's Music Room
The music room holds the final clue, but its door is tightly shut. You'll have to start by entering Goliath's Room next door. Use your crowbar to break through the wall marked "Like Music" to create a small opening into the music room. It's too small for Mia, but if you switch to Lupi, you can fit through with ease.
As Lupi, steer clear of the ghost lurking within, as approaching too closely will cause the dog to bolt in terror. Redirect your attention to relocating the chair that’s obstructing Thiana’s door. After unlocking the door, return to Mia, step into the room, and discover that the ghost has disappeared.
Look down and examine the Memoria Timoris music sheet laid out by the piano, glowing under the UV light. A sketch of a clock with the title will yield another important key. Nearby, three vinyls are strewn about on the ground.
A disc, which is with the wardrobe in the bottom-right corner, shares a title with the music sheet. Ignore the "13 minutes" on it; but when you turn on your UV flashlight and take another look, you'll notice it's actually a clock hand pointing to 3, with the Roman numeral III etched to the side of it. Your minute entry for the lock is complete.
Advanced Lock Puzzle
Once you have found the numbers 4, 3, and 11, go back to the grandfather clock and connect these numbers with their respective signs. The number 4 corresponds to a hexagon, 3 is for a concentric circle, and 11 is a circle with a downward triangle.
Head back to the storage room and select these symbols on the lock in the proper sequence. After that, you will hear the pleasing sound of the lock opening for the first time.
This gives you access to the basement from the other side. Inside, you'll find two Blood Zombies. Defeat them and find the secret shortcut at the other end of the basement. Head out through the bottom to enter a hallway that opens up into a room with cryptic messages scrawled on the walls.
Lying in repose at the heart of the room, is another Blood Zombie beside a sheet of paper. Kill the enemy, then take a gander at the document with the UV light on.
When interacting with the paper, be aware that the screen will intentionally fuzz up and distort, but don't worry, it's suppose to happen this way.
This document reveals the next three symbols that you will need to input on the sigil screen, which always comes up after you choose "Begin" from the main menu. You'll be taken back to the events that took place before Mia's arrival at the Strach mansion. Now, put on Verity's shoes: he is Mia's father-and take a journey in tracing the haunting path once taken by his daughter, leading back to the chilling depths of the basement of the mansion.
