How to unlock Sadness in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Now that Sadness has arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you're one step closer to making her a permanent resident. Like all villagers, there are specific prerequisites and a series of key quests you must complete to convince her to officially move into your valley. This guide will walk you through the entire process, from unlocking the Inside Out realm to completing the final quest that brings her home.

Dreamlight Valley: How to unlock Sadness

Sadness is unlocked by progressing through the main questline within the Inside Out realm. The process is lengthy but straightforward. You must first unlock Joy, complete a series of her quests, and then complete Sadness's personal quests.Here is a full breakdown of the required steps:

• Unlock the Inside Out Realm.
• Complete the "Emotional Rescue" quest.
• Complete the "Out of the Blue" quest.
• Complete the "Dream On!" quest. (Joy is unlocked during this quest.)
• Complete the "Get Up and Glow" quest.

Once all these quests are finished, Sadness will officially join your village.

1. Unlocking the Inside Out Realm

Your journey begins at the Dream Castle. You must unlock the Inside Out realm door, which costs 15,000 Dreamlight. Once you've paid the price, you'll be given two additional tasks to open the door completely:

• Cook a dish that makes you happy. Cook any meal at a cooking station.
• Take a picture of a Night Thorn. Snap a picture of any Night Thorn in your village.

2. Completing the "Emotional Rescue" Quest

This is the introductory quest to the Inside Out realm. You will be helping Joy repair the main console.

• Find missing console parts: Locate the following five parts scattered around the realm:
  • Curiosity Sliders (near the orange couch)
  • Envy Button (by the dark purple door)
  • Broken Caution Connectors (in the tunnel)
  • Broken Caution Grips (on the left side of the crafting station)
  • Curiosity Adjuster (by the ramp in the corner)
• Make the final console part: Combine the Broken Caution Connectors and Broken Caution Grips at the crafting bench to make the Broken Caution Sliders.
• Fix the console: Return to the main console and transfer all the parts to repair it.
• Complete the flipper puzzles: Solve the puzzles given to you by Joy.
• Acquire and wear the Mind Worker safety gear: Find the Mind Worker helmet and gloves inside the storage units behind the tunnel. Equip them to proceed.
• Head to Long Term Memory: Activate the elevator in the center of the room to go down and finish the quest.

3. Completing the "Out of the Blue" Quest

In this quest, you will meet Sadness for the first time and help her recover some memories.

• Complete flipper puzzles: Navigate the maze by solving the flipper puzzles to clear a path.
• Locate Sadness: Find her in the back-left corner of the maze.
• Find four Piano Lesson Musical Memories: Search the maze for four memories, marked by bright yellow music notes. Interact with the notes to acquire them.

4. Completing the "Dream On!" Quest

This quest focuses on helping Joy and Sadness put on a "Dream Production" to inspire Riley.

• Visit Joy's Dream Productions space: Enter this special area through the sparkling spot on the right side of the main console.
• Decorate the stage: Go into Furniture Mode and place the following three items on the main stage: the globe, fireplace, and potted tree.
• Wear elegant clothing: Equip any three items tagged as elegant.
• Place Joy and Sadness's home: Return to the valley, place their house, and pay Scrooge McDuck 10,000 Star Coins to build it.
• Gather resources for the light stick: Collect one Topaz, one Apple, one Seaweed, one Blue Falling Penstemon,one Carrot, and one Onyx. Bring these to Joy to finish the quest.

5. Unlocking Joy and Sadness

Joy becomes an official villager as soon as you place her and Sadness'sshared home in your valley during the "Dream On!" quest. However, youstill have one final mission to complete to recruit Sadness.

6. Completing the "Get Up and Glow" Quest

This is the final quest to get Sadness to move in.

• Find four Pop Concert Memories: Explore the Long Term Memory area to find four more memories, also marked by golden music notes.
• Decorate for Dream Productions: Place six pop star-themed items on the main stage: two lights, the DJ table, two speakers, and the confetti cannon.
• Dress up like a pop star: Equip any three items tagged as bold.
• Give Sadness the Go Go Light Stick: Gift her the item that Joy told you about.
• Start the show: Interact with the microphone on the main stage to begin the "Dream Production."
• Chat with Sadness: Talk to her one last time to finish the quest.

Once you have completed all these steps, return to your valley, and Sadnesswill officially move in. She shares a house with Joy, so you won't needto pay for an additional home.
