How To Transfer Renown To Seasonal Characters in Diablo 4

Diablo 4's latest seasonal update, Season 9: Sins of Horadrim, launched on July 1, 2025, bringing a host of new content. For many players, starting a new seasonal character is part of the experience, and a common question arises: how does Renown transfer to these new characters? Renown, the progression points earned from discoveries and completed tasks, is vital for unlocking powerful rewards. Fortunately, while not all Renown transfers, a significant portion does, saving you valuable grinding time.

Diablo 4: Transfer Renown To Seasonal Characters

Renown in Diablo 4 is accumulated through various in-game activities. When it comes to transferring Renown to a new seasonal character, it's important to understand which types of Renown carry over.

What Transfers:

In Season 9, you can transfer Renown acquired through:

• Altars of Lilith: All Renown gained from discovering and activating Altars of Lilith across Sanctuary.
• Area Discovery: All Renown earned by uncovering new areas on the map.

These two categories contribute a substantial amount to your overall Renown progress and are automatically carried over. This means your new seasonal character will immediately benefit from the permanent stat bonuses from Altars of Lilith and have the entire map (or at least the areas you've discovered) revealed from the start.

What Does NOT Transfer:

• Main Story Quests: Renown from completing main campaign quests does not transfer.
• Side Missions/Quests: Renown from completing side quests does not transfer.
• Dungeons: Renown from completing dungeons does not transfer.
• Strongholds: Renown from completing strongholds does not transfer.
• Waypoints: While the map areas are revealed, you will still need to reactivate waypoints on your new character to use them for fast travel.

While it might seem like a "bummer" that not all Renown carries over, the Altars of Lilith and area discovery points alone provide a strong baseline of Renown, allowing you to unlock initial Renown rewards like skill points, potion charges, and max Obols without re-grinding those specific activities. The remaining Renown (from quests, dungeons, etc.) contributes to the later tiers, which you will still need to earn on your seasonal character for the additional XP and Gold rewards. The more crucial "account-wide" benefits (skill points, paragon points, obol capacity, potion charges) are the ones that transfer.

How to Initiate the Transfer:

The process for transferring the eligible Renown is straightforward and automatic once the proper steps are taken:

Load up the game: Launch Diablo 4.

Log in to your old (Eternal Realm) character: You must log in with the Eternal Realm character that has the most Renownprogress (i.e., the character who has discovered the most areas andactivated the most Altars of Lilith). This action creates a "snapshot"of your completed world progression.

Log out and switch to your seasonal character: After logging into your Eternal character, simply log out and then create and/or log in to your new seasonal character.

The game will then automatically transfer the Renown acquired through Altars of Lilith and area discovery to your new seasonal character. You should immediately see the correspondingRenown rewards (Skill Points, Potion Charges, Obols, Paragon Points)unlocked on your seasonal character's regional progress screen.Remember, while the rewards for these specific activities carryover, you will still need to complete dungeons, side quests, andstrongholds on your new seasonal character to earn the remaining Renowntiers for the regional XP and Gold bonuses.
