To make a barrel in Java Edition you will need six planks of wood and two slabs of any type of wood. Planks are obtained by breaking tree trunks and crafting them on a crafting table. Slabs are made by taking three boards and joining them together on a crafting table.

With the six planks and two slabs, you will need to access the crafting table and place all the planks in the slots on the left and right sides. The tiles go in the top and bottom middle slots and leave the middle slot empty.

For the Bedrock Edition, you will simply have to exchange the planks for sticks. Every two planks create four sticks.
